Surely its time for a Spin off from HUKD -namely HUKCOMPS ?

I'm sure most members will agree this site is getting ridiculous with the amount of Competitions being posted -clogging up the "deals " emails and the site in general . Whilst I appreciate some members like competitions surely it has gone too far ! A Competition isn't a deal ! Full Stop . I can check deals only -true - but I also like to answer and indeed ask the community so when I select "ALL" I am bombarded by competitions ! Likewise my daily email of "Deals" is littered by competitions . Competitions are there to harvest members email, phone number , address etc -they're not a free gift . As most are posted by half a dozen "members " I can only presume there is a financial incentive for HUKD to post so many Competitions ! I have previously suggested the Hot and Cold buttons relating to competitions be replaced by an "Entered " button ,thus appeasing the Competition aficionados but not clogging up "Hot pages" and Hot Deals emails with Comps - too obvious a solution ?
Could it be that the Competition sponsors (email harvesters ) would not pay so much if their competitions did not go hot (as they nearly always do ) and thus get maximum exposure ?
I have checked and rechecked the sites rules and there is nothing in there that prevents me from criticising HUKD or from suggesting how it may be improved , yet two previous , similar questions have been removed without the courtesy of a message to explain which rule I have breached (which I have not ) . Mods please ensure this post is not deleted and is left open for discussion , as like most members I only want to improve the site .

No need to change it. You can easily filter out competitions using the "custom" tab.

I quite like the competitions personally, but I can see some merit in entered and declined buttons rather than voting hot or cold, but I suppose too much diversification of functionality will make the site more complicated for new and casual users.

You don't speak for me.

Incorrect. By law, there must be an opt-out of marketing/data transmission. If you'd ever bothered to try, you'd have found that it actually works too. Competitions are there to raise brand and product interest and awareness.

rogparki
as like most members I only want to improve the site .

Er no. You want the site to operate according to your personal preferences. Go build your own website.

Hi rogparki,
See my comment in this thread
Already a number of threads on this subject in feedback; that's just 4 of the more recent ones. As BeerDrinker has pointed out you can filter out Competitions.

I never see a single competition, I just click, deals, ask, or misc, or occasionally custom.
Not even on the Daily email ?- if it wasn't swamped with comps how many good deals could it show ?

I'd prefer people to navigate and learn how to use the site before complaining in the wrong place about how they only see certain content...
#9
Just look at the "ALL" Hot deals page right now -which is all most members do . Its full of WIN,WIN,WIN,WIN etc is that supposed to attract new members and contributors ?

Yes 'All' I.e. deals + freebies + vouchers + competitions

If you want a deal visit 'deals'. If you want a voucher code then visit 'vouchers', if you want a freebie visit 'freebies' and if you want to enter a competition then visit 'competitions'.

If you want to learn how the site works then simply ask instead of complaining.

Sorry -What is the name of the site ? Since when has an email harvesting Competition been a "deal" ?

I must be one of the lucky few members who aren't forced to enter competitions as a payment for having an account with this site...

You're right of course ,I could look at "Deals " then "Ask " then "Misc" then "Feedback" etc and avoid "ALL" - I wouldn't even mind if there was just the odd competition . I realise its the Competition Sponsors who pay such a lot to be featured on this site -which is why HUKD wont put a simple "entered" button against Competitions . The competition sponsors want their Comps to become "Hot" thus diluting genuine hot deals - Surely that must be obvious to all ?

Most people vote up on a competition that they have entered so that they know what they have or haven't entered, it's very simple. And those 'sponsoring' competitions are normal members who post them for others so that they might win.

As for how this site makes its money, that's not really an issue and you are not made to enter any competitions. Your issue is that you don't know how to use the site properly, which you could have asked for assistance on instead of being so abrasive.

You have your answer and had it very early on in your thread. If you have feedback for the site mods then properly post it in Feedback. If you have a complaint, then use the Contact link at the bottom of the page.

I cant believe you're that naïve ! Nobody has to enter a competition- of course - but if its there in the "Hot " pages a certain percentage will ,and strangely they all ask for your email -Surprise ! I have discussed this issue with a Mod which was why the thread was unlocked to enable discussion . Your argument loses weight in that 90% of all competitions are posted by 3 or 4 "members " .

My argument loses weight because you say so... based on nothing but opinion? That sounds like the utterance of a petulant fool. Just filter them out and stop moaning.

Is it a coincidence that a certain member gets his issue of "Competitors Journal" very early each day (wish my paperboy was that early !) and posts several competitions by 5am ? Due to members voting "Hot" (so they know they've entered -fair enough) these competitions invariably go hot and dilute the effect of a real deal going hot . You don't need a Phd in the art of the obvious to realise that surely ?

What on earth is the relevance of someone posting comps at 5am? What about deals posted at 5am - some conspiracy going on there too? And your speculation about people being paid to post comps and sponsors lobbying for exposure and data harvesting and.... and...... and...... is just uninformed speculation. You really like your conspiracies, eh?

It's highly unlikely to the point of improbability that deal votes are being diverted to comp votes and thus being diluted.

I use the site the way it was intended - I look at the deals tab for deal, the freebies tab for freebies, the comps tab for comps. You should try it. You might find it works and you'll have less to whine about.

Do be serious -you haven't noticed ? may be its easier on nightshift -every morning 4 or 5 am another 6 -10 comps one member -then another about 9-10 am another 6 -10 comps -every single day ,same "members " ! You cant seriously tell me you haven't noticed ? Just look back if you doubt me -really !

If you doubt me you could check 3 comps posted around midnight -does the competitors journal come out that early ? -then check the members history - Still doubt me ? . I suggest 4 or 5 "members " are emailed 20 or 30 Competitions each from HUKD to post during the day -which all go hot as competitions do (even though most are rubbish and definitely not deals ) this totally skews the Hot deals pages and ensure the Competition Sponsors get maximum exposure and maximum email harvesting .
Now there's nothing wrong with that ,apart from leading us to believe its genuine random members posting these competitions -and of course no intelligent member would believe the comps were posted by random members finding a good comp as we find good deals (or so we think until we post it ).
The question remains -Should the site divide to become HUKD and HUKComps on 2 separate websites ?

I've never seen a competition on this site. How can that be? oO
You've never had a very slow night shift then :)
#25
Jumpingphil
No, I've just never clicked on the "MORE" dropdown box and then clicked on competitions, or clicked on "ALL" for that matter.

Isn't it that simple, or am I missing something? oO
Just click on "ALL" and be prepared to be totally Underwhelmed . Or click on "Competitions" and see the same 5 "random" "members !" posting 90% of the competitions - Yes night shifts can get that boring :)
#26
Jumpingphil
But if you don't like them, why click on them?

What on earth am I missing here?

I click on "DEALS", "FREEBIES" and occasionally on "MISC", "FEEDBACK" and "ASK".
What is so hard?

Why click on something that gives you competitions when it is so easy to avoid? oO
Good point ,I'm lazy I suppose ,like the majority of members. But you don't have a choice in the daily email -apart from opting out . Think I'm done with trying to put HUKD right for tonight -I'll take your advice and just click the categories that wont annoy me . Cheers ,Thanks for the good advice :)

What does the e-mail give you and what do you do when you receive it?

How many times a day do you get it?
Just for a change it might be "WIN £2000 on Dickinsons Real Deal" etc - but my point is I just treat it like spam and delete possibly missing what could be a decent deal on there .
#28
I never see competitions (or freebies or vouchers for that matter).
A lot of it depends on how you navigate the site.
#29
Im with Rog on this I hate to see the competitions as well!
Using the app most of the time your level of filtering is limited.
I read it as give us your details and we'll spam you!
I once got my mother an insurance quote online and used my email address, this was 7years ago and I'm still getting mail addressed to her from different companies. Big names too like Saga and the AA.We all know that the opt out button only confirms its a working email address.
#30
This may be a valid post if most people use the All tab, as has been claimed. I dispute that. Quick straw poll:

Do you use the All tab?

My answer - no.
#31
Do I use the All tab - yes I do.

Personally I hate all the comps that clog it up.

So your beef is really that some members post a lot of comps? I explained this to you before. Sharing comps and answers is an efficent way to enter more comps. Compers do it because it gives them access to a bigger pool of comps and in a community that is helpful to them.

Real hot deals get hot whether comps get hot or not.

I've already explained that you're mistaken about harvesting poersonal information but you keep banging on about it and repeating the same innaccurate mistaken stuff and ignoring the questions

And you've had it explained to you multiple times how to use the site to acheive what you want. Try it. Becuase at the moment you're coming across as a selfish **** spitting his dummy because you can't get your own way.
[mod][Mod Team]#33
The functionality is already there. Change your "Custom" tab settings to include all the sections you want then use "Custom" instead of "All".

HUKD isn't going to change things up because one person can't navigate or use the site without spitting their dummy. It is very easy to use the site without ever seeing a competition.

As for comps in the daily email, that's a separate issue which I can't help with.

i just have Custom as my home page. that shows me everything except competitions ;)

There's no answer to this question, it should be in feedback.

Wtf have I just stumbled upon?? This thread is merely the ramblings of a madman. Never in all my time using this site have competitions been an issue. In fact, I'd even say I've probably only seen 1, maybe 2....EVER!
