you can't do surround sound with 3 speakers.

Try avforums.com for better advice.

This is a wall-mountable single-box (42 drivers) solution

You also could try ceiling speakers.

But basically for surround sound you want 5 speakers + subwoofer = 6 speakers.

you would also want a subwoofer to go with that

sure you can, it would just be really really bad :)

btw, those speakers and sub are probably going to cost this guy more than the tv he has bought

yeah i know, but he didn't say how much he wanted to spend.

cheap surround sound speakers sound seriously bad, you're much better off with a £100 pair active bookshelf speakers than some horrid £39 HUKD surround sound special (and then people don't realise you still need a receiver, which will cost >£100).

you can google for reviews. There is whole range of Yamaha Digital Sound Projector models (of different sizes and quality), which you will find some discussion of on avforums. There is usually about three models in the range, but also discontinued models which might be cheaper, used on ebay. The newest model (not yet out) supports HDMI pass-through

You need to do your research really, preferably listening at a hi-fi shop before you buy (and also investigate how it works in small rooms of your size). An option to return the product would be ideal, if you don't like it.

I have certainly never seen a *bad* review of this range, nothing below about a 4* rating (out of 5). But I've never actually heard how it sounds, it's really up to you to find whether you think it's a convincing surround sound experience or not.

It's a pretty compelling product though, with built in receiver and speakers.
