I want to put a security camera on my bedroom window pointing out to the garden.
Any recommendations around the £60 mark + or - £30?

if you have a pc or laptop in your room just use a cheap webcam

a camera should cost you about £20-£30 or £60 if you want a DVR recorder.

Thx for info, I have a ms lifecam 1.4 but Im thinking a better option would be to have a separate recording device so the pc doesn't need to stay on all the time, also nightvision would be required.

something similar to this - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002PK0UUI/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_3?pf_rd_p=103612307&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B003EDIUJI&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=0XDH76T8NC6HBJXGVADJ

But I have no idea on quality or anything, was hoping somebody would say i have this bla bla and it's great :)

just checking ebuyer.

For a good picture quality you want the highest TVL [TV lines] 480tvl or 520tvl would be ideal .Most modern cameras have infra-red LED's around the lens , these cameras are hopeless if used behind glass . Cameras can be plugged into tv's using scart plugs or phono sockets , but the modern cameras can be ip ones . These will link to your pc or laptop using wi-fi but you need your laptop or pc switched on all the time to view or record .

I agree , with the separate recorder though . I have a DVR with built in hard drive that records up to 4 cameras . You just switch it on and forget about it .I also have a one thats designed for the car , a mobile 4 camera input . I've been trialing it in my Zafira using just 2 cameras [front and rear].

There is no way would I want any form of setup that notifies my phone or allows me to view cameras when I'm out and about .
My recent purchase is a portable model that records to a SD card , I bought a 16GB card for it . It will record for over 13 hours at 25 frames per second .You can of course alter the frame capture rate down to 15/7/1 second to make the SD card last for days .This was only £54 and well worth the money .I've recently tried it out on a visit to Sheffield in the car . It recorded the whole journey there and back , a round trip of about 7 hours .Worked well ,even on darkly light roads, but I counldn't read number plates over 30 feet in front of the car using the bullet cam , so I'll change the
camera and trail it again . This unit can be run indoors from a mains adapter , will only link 1 camera but you just remove the SD card to view on your pc or laptop using a a card reader.

Interesting ricko, I assume it will be ok for putting in the bedroom window to view the garden. Any link or info as to where you bought it from?

The DVR was bought from DX.

Remember , this is only the recording device , you will need to add a camera . I have lots of different types but they will all plug into this DVR .You could run this from a car battery [ 12v ] or any other 12v source including a mains adapter .The cameras I was buying for car use is the bullet type cams , bought from ebay for about £16.Check out the cameras on ebay , some for external use with infra-red ,or you could go for one without infra-red for use behind a window I would also go for the wired ones .
