T-Mobile SIM deal?

Just updated my mobile and transferred my SIM to the new one. There's nothing wrong with the old mobile so I'm looking for a SIM for it as a backup. ASDA or Tesco do a SIM pack for about a fiver that has £10 credit on it, does anyone know of a better deal. One that credit does not have to used each month but kept alive once ever six months by a text. Any other network that might be OK - Tesco or Virgin?

I have a ten year old SIM but I think that needs £10 to re-activate it?
TIA
Edit changed and for but ... kept alive...

As with just about all networks, I think you have to make at least 1 chargable call every 6 months to keep the sim active.

The phone is locked to T-Mobile. Thanks.

Are the eBay offers any good? £7.99 for £20 credit.

No reason why not, I've bought quite a few sims with credit on from eBay when they're cheap.

Virgin works on the back of the T-Mobile network, so your phone could use a Virgin sim as well or IKEA family mobile.
