What could it be and do I have any chance of repair or replace without receipt?

Ring Tesco, the warranty maybe transferable to you, but i believe it will apply from date of the purchase from the original buyer.
Yyou can reset the tab, I've had a tab with a rockchip processor and it occasionaly wouldn't turn on, but the reset button solved it:

Sounds like either a dead battery or a faulty charging port as to repair or replace technically the sale of goods act allows a return without a reciept within 12 months. If you purchased it from Tesco using your customer account info it will show up on their database.

Would of thought you have 12 months manufactoring warranty with the HUDL, are you still in that period? if so contact Tesco and get them to sort it for you.

I bought it second hand online

Don't know if it will work but try holding down Power and Home Button for several seconds with the hudl in the charger.

Try a different charger

Tried multiple chargers, none work. The HUDL does not have a physical home button. Tried the power and volume key combination. No response.

Use your bake bean mate, type in HUDL repairers in on Google or ring Tesco and see if they do a repair service, people on a forum are not going to be able to tell you what is wrong with your second hand HUDL

Hasn't been released a year - So may be able to get a replacement - Worth a try!

my daughter has had 2 replacement HUDLs since Christmas as the charging port had come loose and wouldn't hold the charger in place, however I bought new from them. Try their Tech Support online, they have a dedicated HUDL page and various ways of contacting them, I'm sure they can advise you of the best course of action.

Why wouldn't you keep a receipt for an electrical item

Have you tried a reset? There is a small hole on the back of the hudl that will accomodate a pin/needle. That may do it......happened to mine and worked.
#13
Got a pin and went inside it and it came back alive. Screen displayed HUDL* for a few minutes before going back to complete normal.

This site is amazing. I bought a secondhand hudl from eBay. They would not return it without a receipt.Read this thread. Reset it with a toothpick in the back. Works perfectly now. Thank you all so much. This has saved me a fortune and my son is so relieved as well.

No idea how it even happens, might have something to do with the very loose connection with the micro-usb charging port. Bet somewhere out there has had this problem and thrown it out.

they know it's less than a year old because it's been out for less than a year
they will go above and beyond their normal level of customer service because it's the reputation of their precious brand at stake
for those for who the pin trick didn't work, I expect they will still go some way to fix/rectify any problems

I am now on my second Hudl both with a design fault in that after a while the charging port becomes too loose to hold the connection

I have a problem with the charging port on my six week old hudl. I think the problem is that it isn't a snug fit, but after it has been out this long you would think they could have sorted it by now.

My sons hudl will not charge. It is obviously a commom fault and should be recalled.Replacing is not the answer as the next one will do the same.It seamed the perfect presant for christmas or birthday and all its done is cause upset for 1000's.Should of been noticed before launch.DISCUSTING.Note to everyone else.I've just tried using my phone charger witch is samsung and it seems to work.

I have 2 hudles bought for christmas and both have poor connection with regards to the charging port !! I have been offererd a replacement for one of the hudls but the other has a cracked screen ( a faulty charging port also) but they are refusing to replace that one because it has been accidentally damaged. I have asked for it to be repaired and that i will pay for that repair but they cannot do that as they dont have replacement parts and cant tell me when replacement parts will be available ???? what can i do ???

I have a hudl and my problem I had with it is the charging porthole is loose, I have had it for 6 months and noticed the problem about 2 month ago and now its worse. Even though I have a receipt Tesco will only offer a repair even though they say it's a common fault they will not refund my money or give me a replacement. I am not a happy customer and would like advice please.

In answer to maureenedwards take a look at this clicky link
England home>Consumer>Common problems with products

It can be a bit tortuous to read at times but everything you need to know about your rights is there. From the way you describe things it would seem the offer of a repair is a good one - this repair will come with its own set of rights.

I've tried the reset and it's worked a few times but the hudl has gone back to the same problem and will not charge anymore. it's around 14 months old. Will try to sort it out with tesco and update all

My hudl has just made a long, loud and wired noise and completely shut down.. It won't charge (red light won't come on) or turn on.. I know it's not the charger as my partners hudl charges fine. I don't have a receipt so I hope Tesco will do something about it!

Hi - We bought two huddles for our daughters last Christmas. My oldest daughter's huddle has died twice now due to this issue. They replaced it without question the first time it happened as it was Christmas time and they were mega busy. No quibbles refund type thing during Christmas period. However, the replacement Hudl has just died again this morning. Tesco store won't replace it and made us phone Tesco's Hudl technical support team, who were useless. They've refused to give us a refund. Instead, we have to wait until Tuesday for a courier to pick it up and then wait for 7 days until they look at it. Rubbish service. I won't be spending a penny in any of their stores again.

Forgot to say... We had lost our receipt too so they refused to consider fixing it or replacing it. Luckily, I had purchased the two Hudls via Tesco's on-line website and had received a confirmation e-mail from them which has a unique purchase number on it. This might be of use to you too.
