The Motherboard, Processor & RAM Challenge!

OK a gold star to anyone who can beat any of these prices!

I have kind of sorted out what parts I want now, I used to be up to date with computers but havn't touched them for 2 years so am a bit rusty.

Motherboard picked:
Needs to have 2x PCI-E slots, at 16x
Preferably 4 Slots for RAM, taking up to 800MHz PC6400
Abit AW9D-MAX Intel 975X (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-108-AB)
Price: £158.61 Overclockers
Price: £151.52 Aria
Price: £139.59 Microdirect
Price: £135.47 www.cclonline.com

Processor picked:
Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail (CP-128-IN)Price: £229.11 Overclockers
Price: £222.02 Aria
Price: £216.77 Dabs
Price: £211.49 Microdirect
Price: £242.47 www.cclonline.com

RAM picked:
800Mhz PC6400 DDR2. Would like to buy just 1GB now but it works out cheaper if I just buy 2x1GB sticks if you get me (Wierd Logic)
I am not to bothered about make etc, but the follwing product looks about the cheapest I can find.
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) (MY-058-GL)
£176.24 Overclockers
£190.35 Microdirect

I also looked around at Scan.co.uk, but no great prices from what I could see.
These items can be OEM if price dictates, although processor might be best if it came with heatsink/fan as my current fan might not be up to the task.

Microdirect offer 3% Quidco and seem to be cheapest overall, but are out of stock of the Motherboard :(

Also if you can find a better Processor/Motherboard for the money please post it up, because I can be swayed as I literally don't know what I am doing here haha.

I am looking to spend around £350 for CPU/Motherboard
Looks like I am stuck at around £150+ for the RAM but I would really like to go cheaper in this area if it is even possible!

Graphics card I got for this lot to work with is this...
Leadtek GeForce 7950 GX2 1024MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-086-LT) It's the bottom one.

Thanks people, hope you can help, and the gaunlet has been laid!...

Wow you're really in spend mode....the problem with buying from seperate retailers is the postage costs.

If it was me I'd get the lot from Micro Direct and benefit from the 3% Quidco .

Well I only planned on spending £200 on friday, then it went to £300 buy Friday evening and then it got to Saturday i was lookg at £500 tops including RAM and now it's £540 :-(

As for Microdirect, I think I'll probably get it all from there, minus the RAM if Overclcokers are still having it in the sale. But Microdirect are out of stock of the Motherboard and I was told...

"Dear Customer, Regarding the availability of the stated product, we do not have any onorder from the supplier, but we would like to ensure you that we getstock from our supplier everyday so that particular mother board mightbe in stock soon. Alternatively, you can have an email sent to your inbox once the item isin stock, by clicking on 'Email me when back in stock link' on theproduct page. Best Regards, Micro Direct Sales Team"

Have you tried savastore and pcnextday? as they both have 3% Quidco.

With that sort of expenditure and the wizzy graphics card you should have a belter of a PC.

definatly get retail cpu.oem has 1 year warranty, retail 3 year.just buy a new heatsink.if you are sticking with a single graphic card the asus p5b deluxe is highly reccomended with onboard wifi and fanless design also according to asus supports pc8500 at 1066 mhz and is in microdirect for 130.95.

also remember these new boards take 24 pin psu.you may need to invest in new power supply.although they usually have an adapter for 20 pin.

Have yoi already purchased that card? Just to let you know that in less than 3 months dx10 will be released along with dx10 cards.

That card is a very fast card and will still run games fast in dx10, but for the same amount of money in just 3 months you could get a better card that utilises dx10 fully.

Your choice, but if you must have one of the best right now then go for it, although personaly I would just get something like a 7900gt for about £150 and then sell it come christmas and get a dx10 card.

Also have you checked ebuyer.com for prices? I have not looked myself for you as I have been without a PC all weekend and have other stuff to do. But ebuyer generally are the cheapest online PC retailer. I say generally becuase you do get items which can be found slightly cheaper elsewhere.

Anyway it's worth a look, it costs nothing to look mate.

I got the graphics card as a free replacement for a card I have been having trouble with... http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26180

Bought all the stuff today with a 17.5% off discount so that's probably the best discount I'll ever get :-D

Also the PSU I have got is an Enermax 480Watt Silent type I bought a few months ago to test my old graphics card out, so I shouldn't have any power worries

Thanks again for the feedback!
