I'm looking to purchase a new laptop and hoping you kind folks can let me know what would be best and keep me informed on a cracking deal.

My budget is upto £500 although ideally less.

The general spec I'm looking for is:-

Intel core i5
500GB HDD
4GB RAM
15'6 inch
I guess HDMI out would be an advantage
Dedicated graphics would be a bonus if I could get it at this price but I guess not really required.

Main use will be for internet, email and word processing. Although every now and then use Adobe After effects which my current laptop which is pretty ancient struggles with.

Thanks in advance for your help

Surpasses your minimum spec by far and if you trade in your old laptop will only cost you £350. Here

Thanks for the link. I'm hearing I should get either a Intel core i5 or i7 due to the increased speed. Presumably either would be more beneficial for a longer time without upgrading again?

+ Just found out my current laptop is 5 years 1 month old!

Thought this was great until I saw their list of laptops that qualify for the £150 trade-in deal:

HP ENVY 14
HP ENVY 17
HP Pavilion dm4 Series
HP Pavilion dv3 Series
HP Pavilion dv6 Series
HP Pavilion dv7 Series
HP Pavilion dv8 Series
HP TouchSmart
HP TouchSmart tm2 Series

I'd wager all the above are still worth a fair bit more than £150? Sneaky deal...

They are the ones you need to buy not the ones you need to trade in. :)

Cheers for the heads up. I won't be going for the Acer now as it was originally 50 quid cheaper at £450 (same price as the red one). Now they put up the price! :(

Don't go for the Acer m8 - it's quite overpriced.

Here is a great deal: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/medion-akoya-e6221-intel-core-i5-2410m-processor-4gb-640gb-15-6-black-laptop-499/904634#comments

Cheers, Its got everything and I'm tempted but I would love it to have dedicated rather than onboard graphics for the price. Surely a deal will come soon?

Just heard some people may have been sent out a 25% discount code for dell. This would be perfect for me. If you're not planning on using it please could I have it? Much appreciated ;)
