No deals I know of, but it IS the hotels responsibility to sort your accommodation and pay the excess if there is any. They overbooked, they should be the ones outbooking to another hotel of the same or higher standard for the exact deal you originally booked under and any cost over and above your original booking should be absorbed by them. At least thats how the chain I work for does it, as do all the other hotels in our area, even privately owned ones. I would call them back and make them work, if they overbook they have to be able to sort it, otherwise they are no type of hotel and I would be avoiding it at all costs.

Good luck !!

Thanks, just spoke to them and they are looking in to finding me an alternative as you said. Just worried they will find me some horrible dive.

Remember it has to be of the same star rating as them or higher, if its a dive they are responsible for reimbursement, if you really go for it you will get it.............not that I am advocating that, just that you booked with them and trusted they would have space for you, they counted the number of guests/rooms to house them in wrongly............ its hardly brain surgery to know when to stop taking bookings, but some of us just cant handle the pressure obviously:whistling:

If you are really worried, just trip advisor it before you go, and keep in mind one mans pain is another mans pleasure............especially when it comes to giving reviews on hotels, we all turn into Paddy Burt writing for the Telegraph

If they or the other hotel even attempt to ask you to put money towards a stay somewhere else, stick to your guns, either that or make them outbook someone else, depending on what hotel it is (private/chain) you will probably find your not the only one in this situation, some regularly overbook by at least 10 rooms then hope that 10 folk dont turn up.............not a good time to be last in the door thats all I can say.

Have a great weekend no matter what you end up doing !!!

They now say they have found us a room in their hotel, so we will see what we get and go from there. Hopefully they haven't just cleared out a storage room

That might just mean they bumped someone else out, or someone cancelled last minute. If its a broom cupboard get them to sort it, dont accept anything less than what you originally were promised.

I hope it goes ok for you, I would be so angry if it happened to me..........

Have you tried at all? There are thousands of rooms available in Torquay this weekend.
It would take 10 minutes research to find something suitable.
