Torrevieja - Costa Blanca - Any suggestions?

We are off to Spain for two weeks on Wednesday, staying near Torrevieja, and would welcome any suggestions of things to see, do or avoid!! We are renting a car so are able to drive if needs be. Would particularly like to know of any reasonable traditional Spanish restaurants in the area (ie: no pictures of fish and chips on the wall!!!)

Am travelling with the dreaded combination of her indoors, out toddler son and my mum, so any options will be consdidered to keep them happy and keep me from going cuckoo!!!

I stayed at Roda which is not that far away, and my mumand step dad are there at the moment.
So La Manga do NOT got on a weekend, mobbed ..and a nightmare to get there we turned back.
Cartagena, nice city loads of shopping and massive natural sea port, there is a massive shopping are La Court Eglasias ( kak spelling but loads of gear and sales were on )
Murcia .. nice city and nice at night
Los Alcazares... grreat beach right on the mar menor .. warm sea good for kids..
Also not far from San Javier airport is a gokart track great fun to say the least..
I loved Roda nice and easy to get everywhere and visited but for the kids even though I was with my mates and avoided kids duties they went to Los Alcazares to the beach ..
Jolly holidays .. swap you any day also where you flying into
