Hi Guys -

Im looking at taking my partner to Florence, Italy in March.

We will most likely be going for 4 nights. I have checked Florence's location and its quite central and is in easy reach of Milan, Venice and Rome (all reached within 2 hours by train).

If i was to book our accommodation in Florence, does any of the seasoned travellers know if there are any special train tickets i could purchase to allow me to visit Milan, Rome and Venice (3 different locations to visit on 3 seperate days) to allow us to get out and about without it becoming really expensive in travelling costs?

Been to Venice a few years ago - loved the place. I guess im trying to be abit greedy and trying to cram alot into 4 seperate days but as there within 2 hours by train i thought i would give it a go....subject to train cost travel.

Italy is my favourite place in the World. In all honesty, unless you want to spend a lot of time on the train, opt for two cities. You could spend four days in any one of them easily, so four is probably a bit OTT.

If you do go to Florence, have a meal at "la cucina garga". It's the best restaurant in the world.

Personally on your itinerary as the above poster i would stick 2 cities even though you could easily spend a week in any and barely scratch the surface.Out of the four as you already been to venice and i would missout milan this time and just stick to florence and one other,

Trentitalia website for your train timetables and prices.
I was astounded on my summer visit to Pescara how cheap the rail travel was on the regional trains.

I just can't help to say that no visit to Milan (well ok just outside) is not complete without a visit to the Museo Storico Alfa Romeo :)

Thanks archer - I was thinking of buying the flights on skyscanner and the hotel via trivago.
Do you think it's cheaper to do it that way rather than buy a package deal?

well what i do as its such a short trip decide on what you want to go see and where it is then just work flights and accommodation rather than a package deal,Have you decided where you want to go dates, and wheres easiest for you to fly from.

not yet no.
I know id like us to be based in florence - so thats where the accomodation will be, so tipping i will fly to the Pisa airport.
I live in Rotherham - so can fly from leeds, manchester, east midlands, doncaster (providing they fly there).
The dates we can go are actually late february/early march , im off work 27th feb to 5th March so we will be hoping to go for 4 days between any of those stated dates.
As i mentioned id like to take in Florence but then add in a trip to either Venice, Rome or Milan by train (or all of them if possible!!)

As said before train travel is relatively cheap but again personally i wouldnt stay in one place and spend your time going back and forth for instance fly to pisa stay in florence for a couple of days then get the train to wherever stay there for a couple of days then either fly back from pisa or wherever you end up.Unless you like the train travel part.

If you do HAVE to go to multiple cities (and if it's 4 days, I would only do 2)...
Stay in each one. That way it's one train trip per city, rather than there and back. This means less train travelling, less cost and more time in the cities.
