Ok, so I'm currently leaving Virgin (had the Big Kahuna) and I've managed to get out of my 12m contract due to the recent price wise. I've never been completely happy since it went in. So, I was looking to go back to Sky but because I've been gone less than 12 months I can't go back as a new customer, which I understand. They did offer me 50% off the box sets bundle & £5 unlimited broadband BUT only if I still had all the hardware. I don't, it was all really old & the box was slowing giving up so it went to the tip so Sky is now going to be too expensive.

I don't watch tv these days so I was looking at going down the broadband only route & getting something like a Now Tv box so I still get things like Sky Living etc plus the freeview. I can't use just freeview either in my area as the signal is poor. I will miss the record function.

So, I don't really know what to do. Who has the best stand alone broadband, are Now TV boxes worth it (I've used it on a PS3 before for the movies) or is there another route I can take?

Thanks

Is there anyone else who's name the contract can go under so they can be the 'new customer'?

why not try the pay as you go route with the latest now tv box until your 12 months has expired with sky then see what offers they've got on.

I noticed that Now TV has broadband too, is that also ran by Sky do you know? If it is, it would be pretty reasonable I imagine.

Just put it under someone else's name. Or just spell your name differently

Give yourself a break. Take a cheap BB deal if you need it, NOWTV for a year, then go back to Sky if you still need it. I bought four NOWTV boxes, with 6mths x4 entertainment, so I'm sorted for two years. I don't really miss Sky. All I watch is the news and the box sets. Kodi if I really need something else, though that is rare. I decided a year ago to be a utilities wh0re and I go for the best deal for everything now after spending up to £600+ per year with Sky for about eight years. I feel liberated.

Will that actually work? I know it used to on my old Lovefilm!

I've just picked up a Now TV box with 5 months free entertainment. Will keep it to one side & make a final decision closer to the time but I think this is probably what I'll go for. Thanks :)

I've just done exactly the Same. Was on big Kahuna on a new customer deal for £35pm for last 9 months....was just about to go up to £70 and they came up with this extra price rise get out option :p

I've cancelled the TV but kept the broadband as none of the BT Fibre based optons come close to Virgin Broadband ...went back to sky with the Box sets bundle 50% off for 12mths offer on no contract so can cancel whenever i want., also got a £50 credit added to my bill.

Luckily I have all my old Sky kit. you should take a look in your local cash convertors or on ebay as Sky+500Gb boxes only fetch around £25...

I'm paying £32 inc Line rental for 100Mbps, 200Mbps is around £10 more.

Bit of a con as you really don't need a phone line but their pricing structure menas it's more expensive for BB without a phone line
