TV or Monitor Required for Xbox 360 ... On The Cheap!!

I have just purchased a Xbox premium in the Boots offer thread

I don't own a flat screen/next-gen/digital tv - I am very confused

I have an unrealistic budget of £150 - and this current special offer is http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5292040/Trail/C%24cip%3D49550.Sound%2Band%2Bvision%3EC%24cip%3D49579.Televisions%3EC%24PROMOTION%3D1.On%2BSpecial%2BOffer.htmhttp://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5292040/Trail/C%24cip%3D49550.Sound%2Band%2Bvision%3EC%24cip%3D49579.Televisions%3EC%24PROMOTION%3D1.On%2BSpecial%2BOffer.htm at Argos is the only one I know of.

What is HDMI? I was going to get a Core but getting a premium is causing me extra headaches!

Then I can get a 360 & a TV for a total of £400 - next gen gaming/tv on the cheap!

If anyone knows any good offers please post here. Any advice welcome - Thanks :)

Hi, fraid it is just an old X-box, the 360 is connected to the tv in the living room running at 720p, I guess this would accept the 720p setting on the 360 though as it is HD ready, as for cables I always buy mine from Ebay, can't give you a link (forum rules) but the seller on ebay is 'K1connectivity' , I have bought loads of cables from them, great value, quick delivery, I think I paid about £3-4 for a 6ft dvi-d to hdmi cable.

so if i wanted to use my tv as a monitor i would need to buy a dvi to hdmi cable?

Remember to get the most from the 360 you need a 32+" screen. Games like Dead Rising are near impossible to play on smaller screens because you can't read the writing. Unless you are sitting right in front of the screen like with a PC.

If you are sitting any distance from a smaller screen there is no point getting a HD one either.

I would recommend saving up a bit of money and buying a 720p 37/42" plasma for tv and gaming.

true say but at the moment i am on a budget too many bills so just trying to make the most out of a 19inch plus mainly play car games and sports not into dead rising etc they give me a headache

no, no that is just a cable I bought from them,

to use this tv as a monitor it has both VGA d-sub and DVI connections, if you graphics card has DVI use that for a slightly better picture. The optimum resolution for PC is 1440x900 on this TV.

i dont think my graphics card has dvi to be honest, so do i use a vga d-sub whats that?!

Its a standard connector on a graphics card like this: (on left)

this is a dvi connection: (on right)
http://www.ngcsu.edu/Adminsrv/Infotech/StuHlpDk/hardware/io_files/dvi.jpgThe round connector in the middle on both these card is an s-video output for connecting to a normal tv, I would only use if the other connectors are not available on your tv ( the picture will be pretty poor compared to either vga or dvi)

Hope that clears things up

the best connection option for a 360 to this tv would be:

Component out from xbox to TV component connection (3 RCA type cable red/blue/green)

or

Component out from Xbox to DVI connector
or

Component out from Xbox to VGA Connector

Personally for ease of use I would go for the first option, if you bought the 360 premium you already have the cables! If not just by the standard component cable for the 360!

I would recommend you getting a 19" monitor or similiar instead if you are just wanting to use it for your 360. You can pickup a 19" monitor for around £100 if you have a look on ebuyer and use google checkout you can get £10 nocked off. If you then buy the official microsoft VGA cable then you should be sorted although you may well need to buy some 2.1 speakers to plug your xbox into them if you do not have a pc with a reasonable sound card. If you want more detailed information about this just PM me and ill help you out.
