First question is how much do you want to spend?

Does your accommodation have a roof top aerial? A satellite dish?

I think not. I am not looking to spend much. Most of my consumption is via Netflix and amazon. I really should want something for news and sports and it's not clear to me wether, for example, a now TV box or sky and the like is better. In Canada we just paid for digital cable packages.

Just get sky tv. You can always find decent packages. Some people go the kodi route but you sound as if you want a stable legal tv service. I've always found sky to be the better of the services available.

News is easy enough however the sport part is where you'll have to decide on what you want. Which sports is important as well as how much you want to pay.

Take a look here: https://www.uswitch.com/tv/compare/sports_tv_packages/

depends on the sports you want and how often , sky is a great all rounder showing a variety of sports, but you have to commit to a year.

talktalk have freeview and the sky sports channels, also with this you can take one month of sports and cancel the next but you need at least 5mb Internet for the sports channels.

bt have their own sports channels so not so much choice, but they are buying it seems most of the rights to any sports to show in the UK.

in my opinion of I'd go with talktalk, they also have the Netflix app on the guide so you watch your Netflix on the TV, as long as you have a tv aerial you won't need to worry about dishes.

whatever you decide they all offer cashback via quidco or topcashback so make sure you check that out.

Unless you are a massive news and sports fan, don't bother buying a TV. One main recurring cost many people miss is the license which is just not worth it (in my opinion).

Thanks all. Appreciate the feedback. I think my best bet for my needs is just the basic package from sky. Works out to about 10.80£ a month after cashback, plus a free TV!

Don't forget a TV licence then!
