Hi folks, I wonder if you all could help me?! (If this is in the wrong section of the forum then I apologise)
I am going to be upgrading my digital camera around Christmas time and will also be getting a camcorder for my Birthday, which is 4 days before Christmas!
I am a complete novice at this sort of thing so would appreciate any kind of help/recommendations that you may be able to pass on. I currently have a 3MP Kodak Easyshare digital camera which has produced good results over the last few years but is too bulky for me. I dont want anything that is too much for my requirements so I have listed below what I am looking for.
Camera: I normally take pictures on holidays, special events, etc so would need it to be portable enough for these activities. I take quite a few pictures of scenery, landmarks, etc so would like the camera to have a decent resolution coupled with a strong optical zoom for optimum results. I have seen the Panasonic TZ23/TZ25 and the Canon IXUS 85 IS (I think these are the model numbers!) and they look similar to what I would need. Budget is £150 tops, although I would like to be closer to the £100 mark if possible.
Camcorder: Again, would like this to capture holidays, kids growing up, etc and would like it to have a decent resolution. A large optical zoom isnt so important but I would like it to have a decent enough zoom to capture a reasonable distance. Would prefer it to have a SD card slot, HDD drive or both as I would need to chop and change between the camcorder and my computer. I have been looking at the HD camcorders as I have a HD TV but they have been quite expensive is getting a HD one really that important? I have seen the Panasonic HDC SD9 and the Sony HDRSR 10E and they look pretty decent to me. Budget is £500 absolute maximum although I would prefer to spend around the £400 mark or lower.
If you have any suggestions, comments, thoughts, recommendations, etc then please post here and help me solve my dilemma!
Many thanks in advance
