usb endoscopes?

Anyone used these usb endoscopes you get on amazon and eBay? Looking for one between 5 and 10m with a smallish head to send down some cable ducting in my flat to see why it's blocked and I can't send a lan cable through. Thought one of these hooked up to my SP3 would allow me a better look.

Have never heard of these before but now I have, I want one.
Would be very handy to have.
Anyone know what software is required to run them? Will it work on Mac? The listings seem to come with 3" software CDs

I bought a cheapy one a couple of years ago to investigate an exhaust problem on a motorbike, it worked very well. It wasn't very high resolution, but clear enough to see what was going on.

They are essentially a web-cam in different packing, I used a free web-cam viewing program with it, both on a PC and a MacBook (obviously a different program on the MacBook)

So you don't think much difference in the cheap ones? Just buy suitable size?

I think all the cheaper ones will be much the same as each other, I'd worry more about the seller than the item :)

Will do, eBay UK seller and PayPal might be better option than amazon then.

errrr....so you're no relation to OP??? :p
i keep telling myself this isn't a pointless waste of money and will one day come in handy in an emergency.
i just hope the concept of USB still exists when that day arrives!

Quite a few uses for one of these. Car work, up behind dash, inside air vents, into cylinder head via spark plug or glow plug hole (if you get one small enough). Checking drains and other pipework. Chasing cables through walls etc.

Gone for a 5.5mm one. 6 led, 10m, 1.3mp one that does 720p. Some of the others come with right angle mirrors, magnet and hook attachments, but none of the 5.5mm ones do. Might have to fashion my own. I'll report back on it once it arrives.

I've done a couple of jobs with mine, the first was to look inside a 2 stroke expansion chamber and the second was the house chimney.

The way I saw it was it was cheaper to buy one of these than it would be to faff around for an hour or two trying to cobble something together that might do the job, freeing up that time that would have been spend to do something else.

Don't be trying a endoscopy at home or a colonoscopy for that matter.

What resolution is it?

Mine is 640x480 but has other modes, but I think they're interpolated.

Not very high resolution, but good enough for seeing who's socks are blocking the loo, I can't see anyone making a movie out of sewer footage, so doubt 1080p is really needed.

FYI, Those cameras don't work on android
