Using cartridges after cancelling HP Instant Ink

Wondering if someone has experience of this - I recently cancelled my service but the cartridges are almost full. You're supposed to send them back but that seems a waste, they're not going to recover the ink. They're supposed to stop working as well, but my printer is disconnected from the internet, and the cartridges still work...so...anyone have experience of this? Do they really expect the cartridges back? Are they uniqely identifiable (sounds unlikely)?

Not using wifi, don't need it. Happily using the cartridges despite the regular prompt to connect to the net

I cancelled my Instant Ink, tried to use up the cartridges I have...they do not work. I disconnected printer from the wifi & used USB...still can't use the cartridges. I am not a computer genius by no means but even if you are hooked up USB & go to print something from the web, it still goes thru your computer/printer so maybe that's how they (HP) keep tabs on what you're doing. I don't think there's a way to use those instant ink cartridges unless you are enrolled in the program. I re-enrolled for another year but still found it wasn't for me. I went thru spurts of printing & then wouldn't print anything else for months. The best thing to do is just toss all those HP Inst. Inks & buy new HP ink at their normally outrageous price & forget about the whole thing! They know how to get us!

    Hey try this:
How to Fool an HP Deskjet Into Thinking it Has New Ink Cartridges

Remove the ink cartridge from the printer carriage. Turn the cartridge over so that you are looking at the copper contacts.Place a small piece of clear tape over the seventh copper contact in the second row of contacts from the left side. Place the cartridge back in the printer.Keep that piece of tape on the contact.

Can you elaborate on this? Left is confusing, depends on how I am holding the cartridge and the 7th copper contact in the second row is confusing as there are not straight rows of contacts. There is tape over all the contacts currently. Thanks for the help.

I think you'll be charged for any further prints

Well...not if I keep the printer disconnected from the net!

what happened with this? Take it you're not using the wifi printing feature on the printer?

You can disconnect from the net but your printer counts the pages printed and when you reconnect to the net it sends HP the number of pages you have printed and they charge them against your account. You can disconnect from the net, print, hack your printer to delete the pages you printed, then reconnect to the net.

Now that is interesting...and fear of that happening is the reason I've never reconnected!

Go to the pad on the printer and turn off web services.

There are ways around them blocking the cartridges, however do not throw them away....just send them back to HP, that way you're not sending perfectly good full cartridges to landfill.

why send them the ink back when you have already paid for it? I would rather recycle it with a different company, not give them something that they can just sell to someone else

Have you tried contacting customer services at HP.com and explaining the situation. I am sure they will be able to re-register the printer
