Hi
Anyone got any experience of this engine in VW Golf / Skoda Octavia?
I'm aware it's chain driven and seems to generally be a well thought of engine.
Anyone got any personal experiences or what to look for / known faults when buying a car with this engine?
Thanks

Best place to find out is http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk and search for 1.6 FSI problems.

Quite a weak and underpowered engine, better off going for a 2.0T

To be honest, I'm not interested in going fast, I have a motorbike for that, I just want something cheap and reliable, the 2.0 is more to tax / insure etc

I have done 160k miles in mine the problems i have had are new clutch and flywheel due to vibration and noise which was very expensive, egr valve and dpf sensor.

Was that the 1.6d? The fsi doesn't have a dpf.
