Just put an order on a new account with Very and they said they need my passport on file before they can proceed.

I asked to pay by card, they still asked for my passport.

So I just asked to cancel the order and close the account.

Anyone else had this issue with them?

Any advice on how to try again when setting up a brand new account?

Tried again, but credit application was rejected.

I have been with Additions Direct who then formed to Very since 2008 and they have never asked me for this. Even when i opened an account for my family member which was under a year ago and they never did either.

You should have asked to speak to a supervisor.

Make a complaint and get them to listen to the recording sounds fishy.

sounds very dodgy to me.

I would not be happy for any company to have my passport details, data breaches happen and then it is anybody's. Also what happens to people with no passport? I'd tell Very to take a running jump.

Be careful. Credit application rejections stay on file for some time and dramatically lower your chances of obtaining credit for each one received exponentially.

It may be because you have a mark on your credit either bad credit or a victim of fraud etc.

Did you ask them why they required it?

Have you just moved or are not on the electoral register?
#12
They are doing you a favour really. Don't bother, terrible company.

Always more than meets the eye on these type of posts...

Sounds dodgy. Apparently not a great company to begin with. Never been asked to show my passport by a retailer except proof of ID to buy alcohol.

Since only a minority of UK citizens HAVE a passport, it all sounds a bit dodgy. It might be an idiot not asking for other proof of identity, it might be you werent actually on the genuine site.

This is assuming you are UK citizen by birth, my Chinese born wife has to produce her passport regularly, and it took us years to get any bank to give her an account.
