I AM WITH VIRGIN FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS. MY CONTRACT WITH THEM WILL END IN OCTOBER SO I CALLED TODAY FOR CANCELATION NOTICE. THEY ASKED IF I DONT RENEW MY CONTRACT WITH THEM I HAVE TO RETURN THEIR BOX. IS IT NORMAL? DO THEY TAKE THEIR BOXES BACK?

i didnt hear what you were saying with all that shouting...LOL.......if you cancel then i assume that you will not get the signal down the cable anymore thus the box is redundant. However i would tell them if they want it back they will have to collect at a time conveinient to you......

i dont have any problem with that i can return their box. but it is strange that they have now resorted to petty stuff

They will either send a guy round to collect it or send you a box to send it back in.

Or they wont bother at all.

You've been paying for the stuff you watch on it, not the actual box, as its only leased from virgin so you dont own it.

Sky make you buy the box so they get out of repairing it for free after one year if it breaks.

this is true - I was an installation tech for NTL ( now Virgin ) and we had to go round picking up cancelled boxes...

Why would Sky take back a Virgin box?

As in sky dont take back their boxes when someone cancels

Its in your contract that virgin boxes remain the property of virgin. They are not sold on ebay etc. I've moved twice and they have never asked for it back!

When i cancelled virgin they didn't bother collecting the V+ box. That was over a year ago and i haven't heard anything since!

The truth

Virgin boxes are simply to "crack" in short programme for unlimited free channels...
All you do then is remove the receiver from the box and Virgin cannot locate it to find out who is watching all their channels for free...

Sky have state of the art technology which means once their box is disconnected is no good to man nor beast.

Not strictly true but near enough, sky tech is by no means state of the art, it's just virgin don't have the money to crack it unlike nds (read SKY). Who are responsible for cracking nagra. It took 6 months and £15 million, some funky chemicals and super computer. Cable companies at the time followed canal+ lead and used nagrs protection. Sky being unlicensed and rebellious used another form, it hasn't been hacked but has been breached in a cs type way
