Visiting York

I was hoping someone might be able to offer some advice on visiting York. I've heard its a great place to visit and I plan to go in the next month or so for a couple of days.

Can anyone recommend anywhere to stay? I checked the Premier Inn site and they have two, Blossom St North and Blossom St South, both state 0.7 miles from York but the North Hotel is more expensive, which is best? What about a guest house perhaps? What is good to see? Nice places to eat? Any hidden gems?

I only have two days so would like to do as much as possible.

I appreciate any help and advice.

Thanks :)

Have a look at some guest houses on bootham, only a short walk into town.

Check out the Yorvik center for sure. York's castle museum is also worth a visit, at least a few hours walk around that.
Other things - York chocolate story is a nice place in the town center. You could have lunch in the Golden Fleece (haunted pub that most haunted visited some years back) There's loads of other stuff too. Depends on what you want to do

Fantastic place to stay , I love York , stayed twice last year at the same hotel . Heres the place :

Hampton by Hilton York
Toft Green,
York YO1 6JT,
United Kingdom
TEL: 44-1904-681-240

We managed to get some good deals over the net and travelled by train , the hotel is central and only a minutes walk to Mickelgate which takes you straight into the city centre and is only 6 or 7 minutes from the station .

Theres flat screen TV and free wi-fi at the hotel , so you can stay in touch with hotukdeals

Thank you to everyone that has replied.

I am looking for a cheap hotel and I think premier inn on Blossom South St is £65 which is fine, I was just concerned the location would be poor but I think it will be fine. I'll check the Hilton and see what guest rooms are available too. Never visited so just unsure. I'm sure when we get there we'll find plenty to visit and see but always helps hearing from people that have been.

Thank you again, feel free to keep posting ideas/tips though :)

We stay there every year and it is fine. About a 10 minute walk to the centre and a bit away from the club area where all the hen groups from Newcastle seem to be every weekend! If going by car you will have to probably park in the ncp car park around the corner (bottom of bridge near rail station) but you do get a discounted rate.

Thanks for that. Over a 2 day period how much would it be? If its expensive I may just book a hotel with a car park!

Thank you everyone.

If I go Monday 14th July the Premier Inn on Blossom St South is £67. It has decent reviews, and in a good location however I am put off a little by having to pay for parking. I wont really be driving so it will be sitting there for about 2 days. I'd rather pay a little more for the same location but can park for free and perhaps even get a free breakfast. Can anyone recommend another hotel with those requirements?

It is highly appreciated, I'd just rather book on recommendations rather than hotel name/group.

Thank you.

If its a nice day a walk round whats left of the city wall is great with a stop off at the old mott & bailey for an ice cream, assuming you're into history that is.

I *think* about 8 or 9 quid a day.

Yep!
"Alternative parking is available at Queens St NCP (SatNav-YO26 2RM). Turn left out of the hotel car park entrance and take the first left, £8.50 per 24hrs. (Tickets to be validated at reception)"
