A strange one I know but I can't find my receipt and still have the game sealed and would like to return it. So if anyone has one please let me know, i'll cover all postage costs of course. Thanks in advance.

See if your local Tesco sell it - if they do they will exchange without a receipt as long as still sealed.

No they wont. :x I bought a game on the Friday night for a present, found out on Sat morning the person already had it, managed to lose the receipt in the space of 12 hours and Tesco refused to exchange it for a different one even although it was still sealed.

I tried taking it to another Tesco 15 miles away and still the same thing. I was going to phone HO to plead with them but my mate ended up taking it off my hands.

AFAIK Woolies are more lenient and may well exchange or put a credit on a Woolies card without a receipt if you say it was a present, (but no cash refund).

ok

i used to work in epos

by law all shops have to keep,at the least electronic copies,of reciepts for 3 years
if this happens to any of you - ask to speak to the store manager and they WILL be able to find a copy of the reciept on there system if you give them a date it was purchased (a rough time makes things easier)

do not put up with - "we need a reciept" rubbish

but do they have the obligation to provide it to the customer though? (this is a genuine question :) i just thought that just because they have to keep it for HM Customs & Excise that doesn't mean that they have the look for receipts everytime the customer demands it? Need to look into this one.

Secondly I am sure that you need to provide a Proof of purchase and this is not restricted to a receipt. If you have bought an item with your credit/debit card and go in a store wtih your statement that would show up your purchase then they have to oblige and refund because that is proof of purchase.

Last but not least I think the reason they are being "difficult" is because a lot of people R&R's games and then also asked for a refund and this is now having a repercussion on genuine customers like you. I think you can return dvd's and games without a receipt to Woolworths and WHSmith although you will not get money back but vouchers (but your might get more money for it as they may elling the game for more money especially in WHSmith)

It is the customers responsibility to keep the proof of purchase and any shop can refuse a refund even with a debit/credit card statement or receipt as this does not actually show the product purchased. Shops are quite entitled to refuse to refund goods if you have changed your mind or no longer want the item. They have to offer a refund or replacement if it is faulty, not as described etc ....

ok - they do not have to look for you - i never said that - but if you ask the manager kindly im sure he/she will look for you. Customer relations and all that

i was just saying its a possibility

No, I used cash. Tesco said that unless I had the receipt, I couldn't prove I'd bought it from there. I could have bought it from anywhere and was trying it on. Even with a cc paper trail there is no proof that it was that particular game I'd bought, according to the csa. I did wonder if they were clamping down on everything now since so many people are R&Ring????

i think that games, like books and CDs are supplied on a sale or return basis at stores.I have returned games to PC world before now without a receipt and had no problems.Mind you I think I just swapped for another game,so if you are wanting to change it for something else try them.

Q7. Do I have to produce a receipt to claim my rights?
No. In fact the trader doesn't have to give you a receipt in the first place so it would be unfair to say that you had to produce one. However, it might not be unreasonable for the shop to want some proof of purchase, so look to see if you have a cheque stub, bank statement, credit card slip etc., and this should be sufficient

and a lot more Q&A's here: http://www.dti.gov.uk/consumers/fact-sheets/page24700.html
