My dad wants to upgrade his television, told him he needs to get with the times and get a proper 1080p set!

He wants no less than 40", he seems to quite like the Panosonic and Sony units, looked at a few 42" models, not bothered if its LCD or Plasma.

Whats the best he can buy for around the £750 mark, might be able to squeeze a bit more.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Looks like a great value set for the money, and can be had for around £600 now. Was hoping with the budget he has he might be looking at a higher spec W Series model though...

What do people think to the Sony Bravia KDL-40W4000 and the Panosonic TH-42PZ85?

Does anyone own one, or know which is the best out of the two?

I've got the Sony Bravia KDL-40W4000 - think it's fantastic. Picture quality and sound are great, especially playing blu-ray discs and games on the PS3 & Xbox360. Prices appear to have gone up since beginning of January when I got mine though (paid £699).

Always bought Sony - quality products!!!!! TV looks great in my bay window. In-laws bought V-series one at same time, but pleased we paid that bit extra.

Hope this is helpful
