Hi
Need to get down to london from manchester Saturday March 11th.

I can go buy bus for £5, but this takes over 5 hours and will be very uncomfortable.

Anyone know of any train promo's?

i know quidco does 1% off trainline, but at £58 for the ticket, thats not much

Cheers

Dont know if this is the cheapest but cheapest but its lots better that £58!

National Express currently have an offer:

Travel before the 31st March 2006 and you can go anywhere on the National Express UK Network for just £9 one way or £18 return. Better still, if you have an NX2 card you can travel for £6 one way/£12 return.

>>>> nationalexpress.com <<<<

All journeys must be reserved 3 days in advance of outward travel date and the offer is bookable until 28 March 2006.

Hope this will help you out! :)

5/6 hours on a stinky coach is my idea of hell, i'm not that tight arsed.... :)
The last time i did the journey was over 10 years ago and bad bad bad.....

hi if you go to www.lastminute.com there is a page to book train tickets(look down the left hand side for trains) i typed in all your details and for one way tickets it ranged from £12.50 to £155.50, the only thing is i think there may be a problem with their site at the moment because every option i clicked on it said it might be fully booked or that the system is unavailable at that time, but it give the telephone number to ring so i'm sure you could get these prices over the phone through quoted last minute.com (0870 010 1296)

hope this helps.

We always use ***Qjump*** for our train tickets, we have got return tickets to london from darlington for £20 before

It's worth searching a range of times to fine the best deal :)

Another tactic, is to buy a return ticket to an intermediate stop, and a return ticket to london from the intermediate stop. It's stupid, but can sometimes work out cheaper!

If you fly between london and manchester, you'll get a FREE First Class return ticket from Virgin Trains at www.planerelief.co.uk

A ticket on bmibaby costs £65 on BD585 at 08:55 arriving at 10:00.

And www.virgintrains.co.uk is offering a VALUE ADVANCE SINGLE A fare for only 23.00.

Hi Stuart,

The secret to cheap train fares is all in the timing...

Go to either the qjump site mentioned, or try www.thetrainline.com (same site, different name).

The first thing is to buy your tickets as early as possible. A little like Airlines, Virgin Trains, who operate the Man - Lon route, have several ranges of ticket pricing available. The earlier you book, the greater chance you have of accessing the cheaper tickets. You usually need to book a couple of weeks before to get a really good fare.

Secondly, be flexible when you travel. If you leave Man after 10:00 or so, the prices will be hugely cheaper than say at 08:00. Similarly, the period between 16:00 and 18:00 has higher fares too. If using the qjump etc websites, you'll be presented with the 4 closest trains to your requested start time.

Hope this strategic info helps.

Regards, Steve
