Just a quick tip for anyone about to activate this new channel. If you like to keep telling sky your going to leave if you don't get a better deal then BE AWARE. Activating SkySports 5 will sign you up to another 12 month contract.

I currently have a 1/2 price package that ends in September. I can then tell them im going to leave to see if I get a better deal but wont be able to if I activate new channel.

Anyone whos not bother about leaving sky before August 2015 then go for it as Champions league will be on this new chanel. Just some advise more than anything, hope this helps someone.

You only sign up to a 12 month contract if you take the free broadband. No contract for Sky Sports 5 only.

Here is the t&c's stating it.

More info on offers, re-contracting & the channel:

New Broadband customers - 2 years free Broadband Unlimited when signing up to a 12 month minimum term for Broadband, Talk and Line Rental. If you already have or opt to take out Sky Sports.
Existing Broadband customers - 2 years free Broadband Unlimited. Re-contract to an 18 month minimum term for Broadband, Talk and Line Rental. If you already have or opt to take out Sky Sports.
New and existing Broadband customers - £10 a month Fibre Unlimited for 12 months when signing up to an 18 month minimum term for Broadband, Talk and Line Rental if you have or opt to take out Sky Sports^
ROI customers are eligible for the channel only and not broadband offers.
Sky Sports, Broadband, Talk & Line Rental must stay on your account for the duration of the offer. If any of these products are cancelled the offer is lost and we revert to standard price for the remainder of the broadband contract.
You will not be re-contracted if you do not take up the broadband offers and only activate the channel.
If you move home the offer will come with you.
The channel is in HD & SD
If you already have a broadband offer then you would need to call us to have this offer removed before this offer is added.
Existing fibre customers are eligible for the £10 per month Fibre unlimited deal.
These offers do not apply to existing Fibre Pro customers.

Thanks for the info -I tend to sign up for these "free" channels without thinking . I dont think I'll bother

regardless of which - you would be missold if you were not told you were entering a new contract, ergo it would not stand in court.
They are obliged to inform you of this.

Well I left sky in March expecting them to cut me a deal which they didn't. Then 2 weeks after my deal ended they offered me 25% off the next 12 months. They then offered my 25% off plus anew HD box. I am missing wsb and bsb on Eurosport and nearly went direct and got Eurosport player for £3.99 a month but then I read some reviews that the player was not very good.

Now they are offering me 50% off for the next 12 months. They rang up last week to see if I was interested and said no. I said I had 2 current deals, one was 50% off for 12 months and the other was 25% off plus a free brand new HD box. I said if they offered both I would go for it but they said no. I guess they were thinking that I would sell the brand new box on ebay meaning I would virtually get 12 months viewing for nothing. They may have been right but my current hd box is faulty so bought a talk talk youview box for 60 quid and now laughing. I wonder how many others are leaving sky.

Sky can be a bit sneaky like this. They offered me multi room at £2.50 per month as an apology for mistakes made with other things. They failed to mention that it would be under 12 month contract, so when I came to cancel my package I was told I couldn't. As it was an extra, offered as compo, i just thought it would come under the same contract as my original package.
