Webhosting

Hello,

My girlfriend wants to try to start a small business that will require a website.
Our ISP provide free webspace, but that's for personal use only.

Does anyone know/recommend any cheap webhosting packages? Would only like to pay for a year really - we'll also need a domain name...

Thanks in advance for any advice any one can give.

If you want a .com and .net address, give me a PM, I can give you up to $97 off a plan which costs $119.40 per year. Each year a free .com or .net address is given (or you can purchase a .co.uk or other one elsewhere for cheap and apply it to this hosting plan).

I say up to $97, well it's actually a referal process, paying me $97 per account opened. How ever, I can pass as much (or as little on) to the new user. Take as much or as little of the $97 as you want - your call :)

$119.40 - 97 = $22.40 US Dollars for 1 years hosting, a .com domain, and great customer support. The hosting is more than adequate - 2 Terabyte transfer per month (That's 2048 GB), 200 GB Disk space, PHP, MySQL, Control Panel - the lot! Would Highly recommend!

I have used 2 different hosting companies, both "unlimited" space, etc:

www.centricahosting.com - bought through ebay (this seller: 220067178578 )
www.streamline.net - bought from their website.

Centrica - 5/5, cant fault them, CS was spot on, never had a problem with the website.

Streamline - 3/5, slow CS and when you do get an answer its usually a "template" email, VERY SLOW SQL database, other than that its decent enough.

as for domains, try 123-reg.

Matt C - thank you for your kind offer, however we're really after a .co.uk address.
I should also add that the website is going to be very simple - just 3 or so pages of information (probably under 10MB in total), we don't require a database to store information, and, being realistic, the traffic probably won't be very high.

I doubt we'll need to contact customer services often (assuming the hosting is reliable), and at least one email address at the domain would be required (preferably with some kind of webmail access).

Thanks again, and shane, thanks for your recommendations.

If that's all you want, I'll happily give you part of my Webspace for free then :)

I have the 2 Terabyte of bandwidth. If you buy yourself a .co.uk domain, I can have it hosted for you! I'll give you an FTP account to go with it too!

Just added a bit of rep for being so altruistic.

I pressed the rep button, but I didn't realise it was going to ask me for a comment so I closed the window down - I didn't change the rep from its default, and I didn't submit anything. I have, however, since left postive rep :-)

Wow Big Ant - you have one site per host!

Why not do multiple sites on the one host lol?

I get what you mean.

So instead of paying the full price one year after hosting with them, you use a discount code with another email!

Genius lol. I should try that......
#22
Are dream host really all that? I need to renew my domain in the near future and am considering moving to somewhere cheaper.
#23
Yes I think they are!

If you go via me, I'll sort you a discount - PM me :p

sdhinternet.co.uk are great

only £1.99 a month but the extra and ad ons , and brilliant customer support you get make it well worth your while.
Main Features 99% uptime, 24/7 support, 200mb storage and 500mb band width.

I signed up to a free package elsewhere but had to transfer cause they were... well not good

I have tried out three or four 'free' packages but nothing I've had so far comes close to this when you look at it as a whole
