be very careful with the weight as they love charging extra (including a nice handling fee) if its over the stated weight.

I have had no problems in either sending or receiving. Just takes a day or two longer than royal mail.
#3
insure it with them if its valuable - they also have a habit of leaving things on doorsteps and in porches etc...

never a problem.

cant be worse than royal mail for that.

Just weigh it properly-its not difficult.

Provided someone is in to receive it, never had an issue. The trouble is that sometimes they leave things in stupid places when people are out; on doorsteps in full view of the road, leaning against a door in a corridor in a block of flats, under a car just in front of one of the wheels on the passenger side so the driver doesn't notice it until ......
On the plus side, delivery time has improved - all the parcels I've dropped off at a parcel shop recently have been delivered within 2 days, 2 were actually delivered next day so maybe they're gradually getting their act together.

Never had a problem but suggest sending to one of their collection points or shop and ask your friend to pick up that way it won't be left on your doorstep and worse they don't put a card through to advise you.

Also be aware their tracking can be a bit a dodgy. I've sent 2 items through Hermes which I know were received but which weren't showing as delivered on their website.

Myhermes are 50/50 in my experience. I would go with dpd for reliability.

Used many times without issue. You do hear some horror stories - but you would hear horror stories about mother Theresa if you asked on the web.

People have different experiences, some good some bad.

Personally we use them every week and when dropping off at a parcelshop and you catch that days collection (we know what time they collect) you can almost guarantee delivery in 2 days & 3 if Northern Ireland.

Getting the courier to collect from you takes a day longer than taking them to a Parcelshop and that's if they collect when they should as a common complaint on here,Facebook etc is that if they are busy they won't collect on the day requested so I would always advise taking them to a shop if you can as courier collection is quite unreliable.

We have had very few problems with them, make sure you pack things well.

As above, they do leave things in silly places sometimes,it would help if buyers left a note on Ebay giving a safe place or which number to leave with neighbours etc but buyers very rarely do that in my experience.

I always use Hermese and find them excellent all round, even returning an item following an unable to deliver, fast delivery also !

I send at least ten 2kg-10kg parcels a week and never had a problem with them. I think it really does depend on the van driver's attitude to work. All the one's I've met seem decent people, hard working and friendly enough.

I also use RM, parcel2go and interlinkdirect because they all have their benifits. For example Interlink are by far the cheapest for Ireland, RM bext for under 2kg normally and P2g best for europe often not all the time.

Hermes are the same price as RM now for under 2kg,why would you use RM,any particular reason?

Shipped few stuff with hermes before without any issues (large items) but did ship a small item recently and it was lost.

Heck I've never had a issue with Yodel in the several years I've used them both as a buyer and sender so I must be on a good run...

2 reasons, the post office is 2 mins away and I rather like the idea that it'll be there tomorrow. So if the is little advantage to going elsewhere I'll always use the post office service. I live in a small town so it's vital, it's already been moved and reduced in size.

No better or worse than any other courier in my opinion (with the exception of Royal mail!)
Ive used them and had no issues.

in over 1500 parcels I sent two got lost got full money for one
I would give them 9/10
and I wouldn't give them 4/10 to RM happily
I never got overcharged for weight limit n I used to go sometimes over 1kg more than allowed.
even my parcelshop guy said for 10kg put 5kg label and for 5kg put 3kg etc because they had no scale system anywhere
but that was 3 years ago maybe they invested in
