Hi,

Can anyone help?

I can't decide what printer to go for. :(

My budget is about £40 max (inc P&P ect)

I want the:-

best quality
cheapest ink cartridges
Plus on the odd occasion it has to be able to print high quality photos.

It will mainly be used for text documents with images, as I am in college and need to print out coursework.
I have a Lexmark z52, its about 5 years old and the ink is costing more that the printer.
:?

Thanks

I'm not an expert but I think the Lexmark printers are more expensive for replacement ink where as the Epson seem to be easily available from refillers or even brand name ink on eBay. I have an HP right now that just ran out so I guess I'll find out what the prices are like for that and report back ;)

Hi Paul,

Thanks

Any others have an opinion on what printer to get?

My preference would be for HP or Epson.

I've always had HP but also a £10.00p Dell [an exceptional offer from a couple of months back :)] I think the Dell is made by Lexmark specifically for them.

I was persuaded by advertizing to buy a Xerox a couple of years ago, that was totally a waste of money.

I should imagine Canon are a good buy, they have the name to live up to, but I guess not a good idea to just go by name [thinking of the Xerox ] But this one gets good reviews for under £50.00p CLICK HERE - CANON INKJET £46.48p Delivered from BT/Shop using the discount from HUKD frontpage [curretn at time of posting].

So... I'd definitely go for an HP again, on past experience, but I might try a Canon next time I need a printer :)

i woud really recommend pushing the boat out to £60 something and getting the Epson R200, absolute bargain for a cracking printer and you'll save the little bit extra that you are spending because the ink can be found so cheap from sites such as svp :)
hope this helps

Anyone else with any good deals/offers?

Looking around for ink today it seems most cartridges for my HP are around £10 to give you an idea.

I'd say if you can afford it go for the R200, that's a sweet printer, really highly recommended by everyone and very easy to get ink for. There should be some deals somewhere on it although it is very much in demand but superceded by its cousin R300 lately.

Thanks :D

I'll look into the R300

I was looking for replacement ink cartridges for my epson printer, the other day and happened upon a company called www.inkandstuff.co.uk where I managed to get 2 black and 2 colour cartridges for under £8 including delivery. Delivery was within 48 hours and free of charge. I would certainly recommend them.

They also work a points system on what you buy from them. There are a few gift choices available when you reach the required amount of %Stuff points.

I didn't like to give my friends email addresses, so I refered myself and some supermarkets. I still got my 10% discount.

That's useful to know too, so thanks for that.

Sorry jai47 we've drifted from the point a bit.

Looking at everyone elses replies + reading reviews on the Epson R200 or R300, think I'd push for that R300 Epson.

I've only ever owned one Epson item, which is a scanner I got just before Christmas. If the quality of that is anything to go by, then I'd recommend them.

Ok,
Thanks for all the advise :D:D:D

Drifting off the point again.... I have used one of the cheapy ink cartridges from www.inkandstuff.co.uk today and it is very good quality. I'm impressed.

Gotta be the Epson R300

Saw that for about £77 at curry's. sure it was posted here.

Gonna have a look.

I got the R200 & think its an excellent printer. I bought replacement carts off ebay for £40 for 5 sets. (Not Genuine Epson)

OK, Thanks :)

I always use Epson due to the cheap ink - catridges are normally about £5 each from www.theinkfactory.co.uk, or around £2-£3 from Ebay :)

Ok Ok

You Great People Of HotUkDeals have convinced me to enough buy the R300 from PC world.

So far so good, easy to install/setup.

I went to get some ink for my old Lexmark z52, the Colour ink was £25 and the Black ink was £15, that’s £40 in total. That’s more than the printers’ value!!!

I saw a pile of R300's for £99.99 and after remembering what you guys said, I decided to buy it.

Thanks a lot for the advice :D:D:D
