I have to chaperone someone to central London and back on Thursday. I will have free time from approx 12pm-4:30pm. I'm not particularly into museums or sightseeing, but was thinking about maybe going to the theatre if there are any on the day bargains to be had. Or does anyone have any better ideas...? All thoughts gratefully received!

Just do what I do. Start walking and wander round for two hours. Then load google maps and head back to were you started from.

I think regent streets lights get turned on. On Thursday. Leister square has Christmas market on and south bank has Christmas markets on.

I don't think Thursday is really a cheap theatre day is it ? If so let me know as I am stuck in London all week

googleboogle, check out http://www.tkts.co.uk for the discounted tickets available each day & then go to the tkts official ticket office in Leicester Square to see what they have. Great deals to be had, no fees & from an official trustworthy source.

the tate is good. the german market will also be on southwark too. not interested in the parliament buildings or anything? theres always the sea life centre and dungeons on southwark too. or you could visit katzenjammers bier keller near london bridge and swallow a few steins to wash down a schnitzel :-)

I have always wanted to walk around Hms Belfast. It's near Tower Bridge. Could also take a boat trip but I guess they are both sight seeing things.

Covent Garden is a must

Funny you should ask about Parliament buildings - that's where the drop off is...

a boat trip down the river to Greenwich from Westminster Pier is a very pleasant way to see a bit of history. You could even get off at the Tower for a couple of hours. This would be my number one suggestion to any visitor to London. Such history.

Just go towards Soho from the city & find a matinee show

Thanks for all the helpful tips. I ended up going to see a show 'One night in Miami...' about Mohammed Ali - highly recommended. I bought a ticket at the theatre and with a bit of haggling got a good discount and a free program. Had a look round Covent Garden, lunch at Steak and Co, which was delicious and then home. A good day in London-instead of walking around bored and freezing - much appreciated hukders! :D
