There's always deals to join the gym in January, but is it the actual; cheapest time with the best offers to join? i have recently injured myself and was hoping to start in January, but I don't know if that'll be possible, and some good gyms can be really expensive!

Hahaha, well i'm still an unfit fattie and proud, but really have to start looking after myself. Hoping someone who maybe works at a gym can shed some light on this (while I stuff my gob with mince pies :D )

Jan will be expensive. Many people join and never use it, but they rely on this money and as such don't give such good value.
Gym is synonymous with fitness but it couldn't be further from the truth. There are so many alternatives. Cardio in the park, joining a sports club, running on the street, body weight and light weights exercises at home.....and so on. You can also attend classes at the local authority gym for great prices. This said, the gym is a good place to get the ball rolling, meet like minded people and to learn correct techniques and form (although for some, youtube will suffice).
There is also a new type of budget gym (e.g. 'the gym') which gives 24 hour gyms for £11/month (with good quality machines) and if you can go off-peak, these are great. Local authority gyms are more expensive but are still far cheaper than the big name chains.
