I've always found ParcelForce very reliable for larger parcels.

Had to claim once with them and they paid out fine.

Royal Mail on the other hand don't seem to grasp that they are responsible when they 'lose' your parcels.

Everyone will have their own opinions though from previous experiences.

EDIT: UPS also seems very professional. Also DPD have good tracking information.

I avoid Hermes, Yodel, City Link, UK Mail for sending parcels but I've never had any major problems with any of them as I receive around 200/300 deliveries a year from them.

myhermes definitely has good prices going for them, however, their compensation guide excludes almost every sort of item out there? xD

having worked in retail for many many years, and had alot of deliverys from alot of different couriers in various different towns. if i wanted the one that seemed to care the most about their parcels and not about speed and volume etc, i would pick ups first then dpd second. however if its cost then you cant beat free. so meh, what is more important cost or reliability?

The other thing i noticed is that just like in retail it depends what shop/area you use. because drivers in south wales for UPS/DPD might be great but the same company might have horrible drivers in somewhere in teeside. I have worked in alot of shops and in everyone some of our staff were great, however some were really bad, depends who you get. same with delivery companies, however their will be an average quality to look out for. for example john lewis is usually better than Currys for its customer service, however sometimes you can get someone amazing from Currys and someone horrible from John Lewis. You have to play the averages for either cost or quality.

You CAN pay alot and get rubbish, and you CAN pay a little and get great. there is an element of luck to your choice however you can play the averages

laptop is not that bif size wise, I think I would check who offers compensation for laptops (as loads of them don't compensate for many things) cheapest is Hermes. most my parcels with them have been with no problems, but last month one parcel was.claimed stolen. (got nicked with couriers car in London apparently) so only got back insured value. as above post really... if you're lucky and all staff dealing. with your parcel are good, then no problem, if someone decides to not to give a s#$t, then another story...
