Thinking of buying a Dell 6400 £629, are they any good and reliable, also can anyone reccomend any others around same spec and price, must be a well known make.
Must have Vista and be compatable with the home edition.

I just use my PC now for internet and light home photography realy, but i do want to experience the whole Vista thing and media centre, so i think it must exceed the minimum requirments for that.

With the Dell 6400 there is the £629 and the £529 versions, which have differnt graphics and processor, do you think both would work with the vista thing

Well you need to have 1gb of ram for vista..and probably a 100 gb hard drive ...if it comes vista loaded then to some extent you can be assured that the graphics chip is up to the task.

if you can push the boat out this seems a good buy

A nice lappy there Mike...I'd also go for the improved graphics.

MIKE T , my budget is set at £629 max, what would be the best laptop to buy for that money, Im not into gaming, just general internet, and windows stuff really, but i do want vista aero etc media centre but not tv veiwing, dvd yes, Would the £529 package be any good, what are the graphics like on that system as they are shared arnt they, also want the truelife screen upgrade,

hope this makes sence

I cant decide between this one and the acer 5633 - the only thing putting me off the acer is the battery life...some have said 1.5hrs - the thing putting me of the dell is the price...it is my preferred choice tho.

I would go for an upgarde to the screen for a true bright one, rather than the graphics

Mike T - I'm having trouble with the customise and buy section of the website.

For the £529 deal what is the upgrade price for a core 2 duo processor and the truebright screen.

What all in one printer would you recommend?

Thanks

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7200 (2.0 GHz, 4 MB L2 cache, 667 MHz FSB) add £282.00

But thats not a good way to upgrade, look at 305-N02643a if your needing 2Ghz cpu.

I wont give advise on printers as I only see a new one every 5yrs or so.

Better wait for a dell sale then as you cant afford the truelife screen and the £629 unit.
The £529 one will only run home basic vista, its short on everything.

Right i'm going to go for the 6400 £629 with truelife screen, total £652, can someone please assure me that i will be able to use all of the vista software on this model, Cheers

I hate DELL, only because you have to know what you want and if you don't you could end up with a laptop with no DVD drive, because you forget to ask for it. If you have a PCW near you, get down there tomorrow, Vista people will be there trying to flog you machines with their new software, gotta be a deal there, but don't go for the extended warrenty option, it's expensive @ £14 a month from day 1, ouch.

The problem is unless someone just recieved the same model as you want, nobody will be able to tell you if Aero will run well on the 128Meg graphics your looking at buying. I will repeat this as its important
I also would go for this upgrade, you will always wish you had if you dont ;-)
Upgrade graphics to 256MB ATI® Mobility™ Radeon® X1400 HyperMemory™ graphics card add £47.00

You cant add to the graphics later and if Aero doesnt run well on 128Meg graphics your really going to kick yourself.

If there is no rush why not wait a week or 2 and see how others report Vista on this ecode? Besides Dell may do a better deal once the rush is over.

If your still looking the fujitsu amilo p1505 is also a strong contender offered at staples for £599...good spec (core 2/120g/1mb ram/15.4)
