so I find it absurd that my little corner shop, pundshops little independent cheap skate Asian shops all have contactless card readers. yet sainsburys (around me anyway and I'm in London) don't have them. The only reason I can think is that the outlay is too much. I just can't think of another reason why they wouldn't have it in stores yet.

Sainsbury's confirmed the news in an interview with The Inquirer, saying that contactless will be available in most of its stores within the next few weeks.

It said, “Our customers will find an expected item in the bagging areas soon."

"We are in the process of introducing contactless payments in our stores. It will be in the majority of Sainsbury’s Local stores by Christmas."

The roll out will see the majority of Sainsbury's Local stores outfitted with the technology before Christmas, with larger stores taking slightly longer as installing the terminals will be a longer process.

Close to where I live, there is a crossroads with a Co-op on one corner, a Tesco on another and a Sainsbury's on a third. I will only go to Sainsbury's as a last resort due to their lack of contactless acceptance.

That's interesting I just wonder why it's taken such a big company so long to get with the times. Personally I don't choose a shop on its method of payment. Thanks for the article :)

I'm Perfectly calm dude. You're the one posting online about how mad you are that sainsburys don't do contact less!

Card merchants will normally upgrade machines for free so it has nothing to do with anyone being cheap. Maybe they just can't be bothered with the extra staffing and possible downtime to implement any changes.

No idea where you got the idea that I was mad about them not having contactless but then again with that attitude I can see how you may jump to that conclusion. I was merely asking a question as to why it has taken such a big company so long whereas all the cheap shops and little independent ones around me have managed to install them. This is the ask section where you can ask any question doesn't mean you can only ask if you're mad or angry about something.
Anyway have a lovely evening and try not to be so rude to people on the net in the future there's just no need for it.

I wasn't aware of that I thought there would be some sort of financial outlay.

They are starting to install them.

Yeah the one in Camden close to Koko doesn't have them either.

I think it's down to the store owner. They have to shell out for it.
