550W is a huge amount of power, the 290 is about 215W load/260W peak so you'd have to have other major power hogs to be getting anywhere close to 550W (FX-9590 etc.)

The 290 is far faster than the 270X and also supports Freesync so if you can get it for £25 more it's an obvious choice.

My system is

Biostar h170t atx mother board
Intel pen g4400
Xfx power supply 550w
12gb ram
2 x 500gb hdd
With external dvdrw
Gaming case with 1 red led
Window 10 pro

So you saying 270x and 290x is fine

As a guess I doubt you'd be drawing more than 100W for that.

Legitreviews found that a similar Pentium G4400 system drew 57W while gaming:

And that was from the wall, the actual draw from the power supply would have been 10-20% lower.

Ebay mostly. I paid £220 for my r9 290 ref a couple of years ago. Pretty noisy and hot but a slight underclock they run really well.
Not worth much now are they really are the elephant in the room due to noise and heat but they're very good bang for buck. I wouldn't pay over £100 for one though.

The 2 means they're in the same range and the second number is how powerful they are compared with the other cards in the range. The 290 is simply the best card there.
