I keep hearing the Hisense name but up until recently I had never actually heard of it.

Sharp is a massive name but I am aware they only exist in name now, like lots of brands.

so which one?

I would get the hisense they are an OEM manufacturer and make stuff for other people including Hewlett Packard so should be decent. Also Amazon let you return stuff up to 6 months if it has a fault

Hisense bought Sharp's factory and produce tv's there for the American market. Sharp are very much still on the go. They may not make all of their own tv's, certainly the smaller screens but they actually make a lot of flat panels and one of their customers is Samsung. If you are not lucky enough to buy a Samsung tv with a Samsung panel you would want it to have a Sharp panel as a second choice. The Sharp tv you point to is more than likely made under licence possibly by Vestel in Turkey and for my money I would buy the Hisense.
