closest would be london city but is usually more expensive to fly into.

another option would be heathrow (take train from heathrow to london) or stanstead (coach to vitoria and train from there)

thanks guys any hotel recomendations within walking distance budget £200 for 1 night and somewhere to eat nothing fancy?

You don't really need to stay close to the theatre.
Just stay somewhere that's close to an Underground station and use a station that's close to the theatre.
I'd recommend the "Citymapper" app for your phone/tablet for working out travelling and walking distances.

Christopher's restaurant is so close to the theatre you can see it from your table and they do a reasonable pre or post theatre menu. Lovely atmosphere and good food.

there is a flat iron round the corner great steak for a tenner

Pierre Victoire, small French bistro, is a 15 min walk away and is great.

That's a lot of effort and planning just to see the lion king. Don't you want to roll it into a week long vacation or something.

Having said that, the lion king is worth the experience. IMHO the best musical ever. Make sure that you get best seats in the house and enjoy the show.

Personally I'd use Golders Green as it's 20 minutes to Leicester Square on the Tube (Northern Line). Taking a bus into Central London if you don't have to is just a waste of time in my opinion.
