Can anyone help me with what is the better laptop for my 11 year old son. As he is still young I assume he wants one to play games although he has a Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 so I think it would be just the childrens type of games he would be playing on it.

Both these deals have 3% Quidco:-

1. The Samsung R60 from Tesco at £499 with a free 3 year warranty, although I collect clubcard points, I am not too bothered about this.

2. The HP Pavilion Laptop G7010EM from John Lewis at £399 with a free 2 year warranty and £30 off with the voucher code at present.

I understand that the Samsung must be the better one (although I am completely useless when it comes to computers and laptops!!) but really what I am asking is, is the Samsng worth an extra £130 and an extra years warranty for a child.

Any help would be appreciated.

Oh no have just noticed 2 good deals in the hot deals forums for HP Laptops, one is HP Compaq Business Notebook 6720 for £499 with £50 and when you click on this in Ebuyer, the one at the bottom of the page which is still the same model but obviously a lower spec is £430 with £30 cashback, theres so many to choose from but I think any of these 4 look good for him.

Maybe someone can pick the best for me pleeeeeese

After reading some of theese forums i think some kids of today are spoilt!

If i said to my mam when i was 11 "Can i have a £499 xmas prezzy" she would have told me where to go.

I didnt get my first fone til 12 and only this year am i getting an xbox.

This has to be a troll post.

Fancy spending £400-500 on something with only an assumption of what it's going to be used for.

E2A: A low end laptop will be no good for gaming in any case

I really dont want to get into a debate on what I am spending on my son, I am fully aware that kids are spoilt these days but I have a very good reason for wanting to spend this kind of money on him, not that its anybodys business.

And anyway 'part2' one of these is £369 which I would probably agree is enough for him but I wondered if spending the extra on the warranty was a better thing to do.

I thought this was supposed to be a helpful site!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well said pauline. mind their own business how much you want to pay..

here is my advice for what its worth
The john lewis Laptop can only take 1gb of ram (memory) and apparently you are better off with at least 2gb when running Windows Vista.
The tesco deal is pretty good especially with the 3 year warranty although If warranties that I have had (not on laptops) are anything to go by, not worth it..
I have found this HP laptop at CCL for £399 which i think is pretty good and they do free next day shipping.. it has 2gb memory and is dual core but only has 80gb hard drive which I think is more than enough.. hope this helps and also changes your mind about the majority of people on this forum.. :)

I have just bought the one from john lewis for my daughter ( if you go for this one, use quidco, and the £30 off a £300 on here to bring the price down to £369 delivered)
