So quick question, we haven't got our imac at the mo and my speakers are redundant so I'm thinking of hooking them up to the tv until I get the imac back. Question is do I need a mini jack to mini jack lead or the one with the 2 plugs that go in back of tv then a mini jack into the bose? Typical woman sat here getting more confused the more I look lol.

3.5mm male stereo to 3.5mm male stereo jack should do It I assume. Would be easier if you named the TV model as TV's don't all have the same connections :(

Under the tv settings you can have the tv speakers on or off when you plug in mini jack. You might want to change although they should go off when you plug in. That's set as default normally
