If you are using it for documents, then I would recommend a laser printer every time. Ink can be expensive.

Must admit I've always had really great experiences with canon printers including some of the very cheap budget models which I've used just for hacking out documents all the way through to more expensive ones for photos. Even though I never buy the genuine cartridges as I find the ones from rite inks are fantastic for a fraction of the cost the results from the canon printers are always superb.
I'm currently using an Epson dx at home because it was given me and even though its been great also if I was purchasing I would always go for canon.
I'd be very surprised to hear if you ever regretted buying one.

You are not really comparing like for like, you are asking us to help you choose between a colour inkjet and a black and white laser. In fact they are so different that I cant see why you have settled on those two.

One is inkjet the other is laser, one does colour the other does not, one is wi fi the other is not, one does fax the other does not.

Anyway, the inkjet is wi fi, is that important to you?

The laser does fax, do you need fax?

Anyway, page for page laser printers are cheaper than inkjets.

But the laser is black and white only, so if you ever need to print colour......

And replacement toners can be VERY expensive on a laser (but they do print more pages). But then replacement ink for an inkjet can also be expensive.

If colour is not important for you then go for the laser as it will cost less to print per page.

p.s. I have just looked at the size of each printer and the Ricoh is twice the HEIGHT of the Canon (the floor space is about the same).

By the way I buy a fantastic set of 4 colour cartridges for that Epson from rite inks ..I think they may have renamed now but if you google it you'll find it..and even though unofficial ones are easy to come by these are fantastic and cost £10 or so for two sets delivered. The best thing to do before deciding which model is look up what the carts are gonna cost you.
Hope this helps in some way

lasers cost more than you think especially cheap ones. all the parts inside wear and need replacing very quickly on these cheap ones, of not just toner you need. I've had Samsung colour laser in the recent past and they just gave up. my canon inkjets just keep going.

Look at HP printers and their Instant ink service. Printers start from around £50 but instead of paying £25-40ish per set of inks only capable of printing around 200 pages you pay a monthly fee of between £2 and £8 and HP automatically send you ink free and you can print out between 50 and 300 pages. I'll not go back to other inkjets now, its saved me a shed load

thanks for the input guys, i appreciate it :-) i think i will go with the canon because of its lower size, i can place it on my desk rather than finding a place for it. The ricoh just seems a bit to be big and doesn't benefit from wifi. Thanks a lot guys :-) happy new year xxx if anyone else wants to add something then feel free to do so x

Great thing about this is that compatible inks for this are less than 70p each on eBay

As you have the canon. If you have an android phone kitkat onwards you can add the print service to the built in printing. If not then they have two apps that do similar things but you share rather than print.

Depends how much ink you use to which printer. My friend has a Hp printer and pays a monthly price plan and they send ink to him in post. Works out less than £5pm for the family printing. I also have a hp but I buy original cartridges cheep off eBay and fill them up myself until they fail but it's messy so won't do that with my next printer. What ever you buy look at ink cost first. As for which printer I don't think there is much in it. My printer was £40 5 years ago from tesco with a scanner built in. Done 1000s of pages. Bargain

I should of added if your using in a office printing looks every day then buy the lazer printer. For home printing then the inkjet. I think the inkjet printing is nicer than lazer from what I have seen.
