Which SSD to buy

Hi All,

I am fixing a friend laptop as her HDD has gone and I am going to replace it with a SSD for he (she dropped the laptop and broke the original one.

She does not use the device for anything other than internet/word processing so a simple 120gb one would do her (no extra space needed as she stores everything elsewhere).

So I basically just need a really cheap one for her and wanted to kow what people thought i should go for. I can see two cheapish ones on amazon below, do people have any prefrence?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-SDSSDP-128G-G25-Internal-2-5-inch-Device/dp/B007ZW2LY4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1405356866&sr=8-2&keywords=120gb+ssd

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kingston-Technology-120GB-Solid-2-5-inch/dp/B00A1ZTZOG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1405356866&sr=8-1&keywords=120gb+ssd

As I said I don't want an expensive one and super speed is not really important (anything should be quicker than what she had) I just want a slight improvement and something more reliable/sturdy than her old HDD.

Suggestions welcome and thanks in advance.

You very much want to go with a Samsung 840 EVO 120GB. Cheaper SSD's use less reliable types of flash and have a shorter life. The 840 EVO does also use a cheap type of flash but has a fantastic controller to increase reliability and speed. The Crucial MX100 is also worth a mention though.

Yeah I have the Evo in my PC but she has a limit of £45. I will be buying the EVO again when I upgrade my laptop but as it is for someone else I dot want to fight the merits of getting something else.

In that case the Sandisk. I hear there were issues with the Kingston and it seems to have better read/write speeds too.

For £45 you'll only be getting a 60GB one then. At that price and what she is going to use it for, any SSD will do.

Amazon have the 128GB Sandisk for £40 with a 1-3 week shipping time.
