there are similar things but there sort of designed for calls and not music, for example could have something to put into tv/phone that bluetooths the audio to the transmitter which you can plug any headphones into, its something either has not been tapped into yet or something that has tried and failed as it to hard to get it to work

But why isn't this a thing yet? Why haven't Google or someone else made this mainstream? It would surely sell like hotcakes?

I would argue the thing you've linked isn't a mainstream solution. Far too chunky. I guess they haven't the technology to miniaturise them yet.

Have you seen the price of Bluetooth headphones? There would be a massive market if the device was cheap enough.

If you going to be plugging wired headphones into a device, why not just plug them into the smartphone itself. I'm out.

There is something I used to have a Sony Bluetooth Receiver thing that you plug your headphones into and your phone connects wirelessly to them. Only cheap like and small. Sony SBH20 Stereo Bluetooth Headset - Black https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00C9GEXXS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_icHGybRRA42YX

I bought some of the following from Tesco for £18 and very surprised by the quality! They're not awful at all, I'm rather picky

I've had the Sony MW600 for 5+ years, it was designed to connect via bluetooth and allows you to connect a decent pair of wired headphones to it. It's no longer made but they do a more modern version which is available from Amazon amongst others and also has NFC connectivity if you want this.

Or this on which has noise cancellation and is splash proof -

I was just about to post this also. I've ordered 2.... nothing worse than Bluetooth dying while out. All phones are moving towards wireless audio now so I think it's time to stock up on BT

Sony seems mainstream enough to me. ;)

If you meant popularising it enough then yes it's not as mainstream

These things have been around for ages, I've still got one made by Sony Ericsson: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-Ericsson-HBH-DS200-Bluetooth-Headset/dp/B000UVNJ5M

Yes I did, clearly if this was an 'in demand' item, it would exist or be commercially successful. A chromecast audio is £30, an alright pair of BT headphones are around £30. What's your beef with BT? You are looking for a solution to a non existent problem
