Here's a nice looking girl with a great body covered in tattoos. I don't understand the appeal.

Is it just me. Am I too old? Not hip enough? I'd love to hear from girls with tattoos as to why they got them.

As I said before I don't want to cause offence its just that picture got me thinking.

Edit: Appreciate the responses (well some of them). Made for interesting reading. Thread closed.

Personally I find nothing sexier than a woman with tattoos. I'm heavily tattooed myself so maybe that's why I like them on women, I don't know.

More to the point, why shouldn't women get tattoos?

Why do guys get tatoo's? Dont get that either.

I believe some of them do it for the 'pain factor' and then get addicted to it.oO

The difference between tattooed and non tattooed people is that people with tattoos don't judge those without.

What is it to you? People get tattoos because they want to. That's it.

At the risk of sounding completely sexist I can sort of understand re masculinity. I would estimate that most male tattoos would be on the arms/upper body region designed to highlight muscle tone/strength?

Like I said in the post I'm not trying to cause offence. My question is why do they want to?

Such an ignorant question! Why do you do anything in life. Because you want to!

Let me guess what you've got tattooed across your forehead?

I used to be a tattooist, I am a self confessed tattoo snob and "collect" work by some of (in my opinion) the best tattooists in the world. I see it as an art form..... I'm not the typical tattooed person, no full sleeves and stretched ears but I love tattoos regardless of others opinions or any stigma

I dont like them, feels like some dude has drawn on my chick :P

If done well its art,my daughter has a half sleeve of roses and its beautiful, she also has a lovely owl.

Interesting. Is it about the art itself i.e. the image or the way the body wears the image?

Both I guess?! Placement can make a big difference but to me it's art. I'm on a 2 year waiting list for an artist in Spain for a tattoo because I have that much respect for his work. I am probably an extreme case but I'm definitely not alone!

Do you think there's such a thing as too many tattoos. To put this into my context I work in music. Something subtle and understated can be beautiful. The problems come when you have multiple sources struggling to compete with each other that you run the risk of losing that balance.

Personally I think everyone has a different view of beautiful so do what makes you happy and sod everyone else's perception of you lol

Apart from when they're judging those that don't have tattoo’s by saying that those that don't, judge those that do :)

I shouldn't have used the term 'beautiful'. It was a poor choice of words for what i was trying to put across. I guess what I was saying was that I can kind of understand a single tattoo. I just have trouble wrapping my head around the idea of putting tattoos all over my body. I wouldn't know where to look!

It's to show everybody they are sluts....

Joking, I guess they got them because they wanted them and they think they look good. They are fashionable, fashion statements, style, personal notes, political statements, memories, some people like the feel of getting them done and lots of people see it as personalising your body, like getting a haircut or dressing a certain way.

There are people who judge people without tattoos, probably as many who judge people for having tattoos.

Did you get tattoos because you see it as art?
#29
I've got 6 and if I could afford it would get more especially a sleeve, I got each of mine because 1. I love them their art... 2. Because all mine got meaning to them, I also feel sexy by having mine.

Well for me each tattoo I have tells a story.

Everyone's different and has different reasons for getting tattoos, Whether it be just because they like the design or because it signifies an event in they're life that changed things. We should be celebrating each other's differences and individuality instead of questioning it.

Totally agree.
#32
Why?
Because they want to be something else, they are not "happy in their own skin"....
A fashion, a fad...unfortunately unlike bell bottom flares you cannot just swap them...you are stuck with them and all the millions of grandchildren who will say, Grandma, why have you got a big wrinkly pair of wings on your back???

any psychologists here? i cant remember but there is the theory suggesting that majority of people who have tattoos do it to "rebel" or are pure hipsters (just like those geeky glasses that dont have prescription lenses) even if they deny it... dont quote me on that ive read this a while ago and it could be wrong

I can certainly understand it from a point of view of art as i believe tattoo artists are that - artists.

What i can't understand is having a tattoo on your back, for example, somewhere where you're not going to be able to appreciate the artwork.

I can also understand a tattoo representing someone lost or a period of time, etc but aren't you concerned that you'll get bored of looking at the same thing over and over again?

Tramp stamps. If you want to look at art get a painting. Who needs to know your kids names or dates of birth.

any psychologists here?

I think that the psychology is very interesting. For example, i'm right-handed. I don't have any tattoos but if i did get one it would be on my upper left arm. Period. It wouldn't be for art as i wouldn't care what the tattoo was and the position would mean that i wouldn't see it nor would anyone else if i were wearing a t-shirt. Maybe some zen, feng-shui thing??

Try to keep replies civil, yeah. The question was about asking people, specifically girls why they get tattoos not attempt to mock them.

I actually disagree with regards children's names and dates of birth. That is something that i can understand completely; same goes for their blood type.

Iirc that gif you linked is from a "questionable" site.

As for tattoos if it's done tastefully go for it.
More people are tattooed then you'd ever think iirc it's something like 1 in 5 Brits.
It's personal choice to enhance or customise your own body. I want one (or more) just still haven't seen or desined anything which is unique to me that's worthy of being there for the rest of my life.
