gumtree has banned me from ever posting again, I have only just joined up!! i posted a polite ad for a mobile phone. customer service says Hello Paul,

Your account has been reviewed and clearly shows non-compliance of our posting rules.

Therefore, our original decision to restrict your access is upheld.

We reserve the right to remove ads and restrict user access in accordance with our terms and conditions as seen on the website (http://www.gumtree.com/disclaimer.html).

This decision is final and not open to further consideration, any future correspondence will not be answered

Kind regards,
Jessica
Gumtree Community Team

"Therefore, our original decision to restrict your access is upheld."...... so you've been banned before?

I think the part where you put "I only accept Western Union" might have something to do with it.

just noticed as i posted my ad twice, as the first time it was instantly banned , this is why its a repeat "offense" . but it doesn't mention whats wrong the first time round anyway. i gave my details, photos, etc

do you have original ad copy?

Gumtree Middlesbrough is full of people selling fake clothing and watches etc, I have no idea how they can get away with it, the same person posts about 30 ads per day.

You must have done something very strange to get banned. I have had a few ads removed for duplicates in the past but they were just deleted and I was informed and nothing else.

I even made a joke ad on the Liverpool site about Suarez using my official account and it was just deleted with no warning or anything and I can continue to use the site as normal.

If you feel very strong about the action taken, you could all ways go down the legal road.

What was their exact response to your query?

Gumtree customer support are a bunch of idiots from my experience.

They will even ban for saying your mobile phone is "unlocked".

I will let you know how to get around it soon!!! busy right now.

Big corporation never revisit a decision.

They will have your IP address and telephone number, so use a different computer and different mobile number.

post a copy of your ad text here, let's see.

Gumtree is easy to get around.

It is not like Ebay where you have to go stealth if you have the same house and connection.

Gumtree you just use a VPN and another email address and you are clear to go. I really don't see the big deal about being banned from using Gumtree. They can't find you as long as you don't give yourself away on your new account, you don;t have to give any financial details or anything which is usually the main stumbling block if you get banned from other major sites like Ebay or Amazon.

Why do you need to give financial info, you could just make up a PayPal account and link that with your eBay account and away you go.

OK, set yourself away.

Make up a PayPal account.

OK you now have a none verified PayPal account with no financial info attached to it, what happens when you hit your limits? Or when you want to withdraw? Or when you want to have a proper standing Ebay account, maybe you want to set up a business account.

I have not tried to just 'make up' a PayPal account but I can image it is not like the old days when Ebay and PayPal were a bit...how can I put it....less robust?

Yes I agree, that is fine for new members. But try it once you have been banned mate.

Your address is logged, your email is logged, your ip is logged, your phone number is logged.

How do you get items delivered to you if your address is banned? How do you go about customer returns if you only sell so not bothered about giving a false address? It is all hard work. Along with the fact that you need a new IP, tunnelling is all fine well but once you forget and make a mistake you are stung, bang, back to square one. Same as creating a new user ID within windows, what if you use an old ID by mistake, many people have different accounts within windows for different things but get carried away and start just doing everything within one account because it is quicker.

It all adds up and makes it very hard mate.

So as I said, Gumtree is very easy to get back online, unlike Ebay or Amazon which is a nightmare if you want to be legit.

I tried to sell some spare tickets at face value (because to get face value at secondary ticket markets you have to add about 50%) on gumtree. Got dobbed in by a rival seller because I wasn't selling physical tickets (mine were physical print outs of etickets :-p ) and got banned and had my paid ad removed.
Went back recently and discovered a slew of e-tickets being sold unchallenged.
A law unto itself, and also a fraudster's dream. I stay away now for those reasons.
