Anyone here got both? I have PS4 (CUH-1216A) and Xbox One S.

Is it me or the Xbox One dashboard sucks? Microsoft are software giant but boy they have been put to shame by Sony here.

Xbox One vs PS4;

Xbox: Game installation from disc slow (without update).
PS4: It has better installation from disc without update. Even with update it will install from disc far faster and at the same time the update will download in the background.

Xbox: Limited to one download at a time and no time indication of remaining time left for download.
PS4: You can literally have 3 files on download same time it even tells you remaining time left.

Xbox: Fan noise on these Xbox One S is a hit or miss. I've had it replaced three times and finally have non faulty one. These Xbox One S have this known buzzing noise from the fan.
PS4: My CUH-1216A PS4 is quiet but it does get a bit loud when you play high graphics game like Uncharted, DOOM.

Xbox: The entire dashboard looks cluttered still. The store is a mess so many different versions of the game and the entire store UI is shambolic.
PS4: Nice, clean and fast.

Xbox: Microsoft servers are ****. I mean seriously. I have fibre 40Mbps. Downloading digital games will be throttled by Microsoft. It will say download at 38Mbps then randomly boom 1-3Mbps. Quantum Break Episodes Pack (75GB) stops at 1% and says installing, no mention of download speed. (after 40minutes still on 1% doing nothing).
PS4: No problems downloading three files at same time. Even downloading a single digital game I get the full speed of 38Mbps constantly!
***NOTE***
As a test these were done via ethernet. I connected Xbox One S downloaded games. Nothing else connected to router via Wi-Fi or ethernet. I did the same for PS4 (disconnecting the Xbox One of course). Nothing else connected to router apart from PS4. I am on Sky Unlimited so no fair usage, non of that speed restriction or limit.

from a PS4 perspective even though we download 3 things at once it makes all your Downloads very slow so it's best to do it once at a time.

I have virgins 200mb service and soon the vivid gamer package so my service will be uncapped and no down times (so THEY claim) and if I try download 3 games at once I'll be waiting years.

When I put three games on download it shared the bandwidth between the three files (equally more or less). It's still feels better than Xbox One when you put one game or update on download. Yes with the PS4 I put one file on download at a time but boy does it download really fast and also it gives the time left to complete download. With Xbox I'm staring at stupid screen 2%, 5%...5%...5%, 11% and the the speed jumps between 38Mbps all the way down to 1-3Mbps.

PS4 constant 38Mbps!

I'll give you thirty quid for your Xbox one

I only own a PS4 ( first model) but I can't believe the Xbox is more noisy , my PS4 sounds like a drone taking off . I am generally unimpressed by both console this gen tho
#6
I also had PS4 first model until I sold it recently, did make quite a noise but the UI/menu is so much better and easier to navigate and has much better flow.

Totally hate the Xbox UI and is pretty sluggish as well. I also had to get my XB S replaced and 2nd one is dead quiet. Terms of gaming love display with HDR On GOW4 & Forza though.

Personally I prefer the Xbox One interface, more user friendly in my opinion.

Also I get much better internet speeds on my Xbox One when compared to my PS4 (both wired connections). More than double to be exact although this could be down to my router. For some reason my Xbox One NAT type is open but my PS4 is moderate.

I do have my Xbox One connection using the DMZ in router settings but when I tried that with the PS4 it made no difference, think it's down to the Superhub 3.0.

If you're unhappy with it, just stick with the Playstation. I've had both consoles since release and they both have advantages in my opinion.

Even if all of your complaints are accurate they are still not enough to counteract the PS4 controller.

My PS4 used to sound like that too, but I re-applied the thermal paste and added some thermal pads to some of the other chips and now it's a lot quieter.

I agree with you op had both last gen consoles and had both this gen til I gave up with the Xbox the dash is a mess and couldn't get on with it. Got rid and stilling with pc and ps4 now. Just upgraded the hhd and it was sooo easy. Have to say on another personal note I prefer the ds4 overall. Easier to customise to boot much better to fix than last gen too. This is a whatever floats your boat situation.

as someone who also has both I would say the Xbox has a miles better Internet download speed, my ps4 struggles to hit 30mb yet Xbox regularly hits 70

agree the Xbox dash isn't great, but once you have loads of games downloaded it makes sense the way they did it.

still much prefer the ps4 Controller.

Yes
Contact microsoft and put a complaint in, might get a result in the form of a freebie or a solution to the problem. You're paying for a premium account so you should get priority with downloads.

Might be getting confused with PSN, pretty sure you can download whilst in standby etc but not much in the faq. Slightly off topic but I had a nightmare with lego dimensions Ghostbuster 2016 pack, just couldn't get it to install after downloading. Turned out they had swapped the update as I got a difference size download a bit later that night and it worked fine.
I'd still complain about you having to pay for a premium account and getting crap download rates.

Defo something wrong at Microsoft end. Even Quantum Break Episodes (that huge 7%GB) won't download it stops at 1% LOL

It's 122GB in total. I already had the game installed. Thought I'd download the episodes pack but man it always get's stuck at 1% and doesn't move from there.

I am on chat with Xbox Live support see what they say.

PS4 don't support:-
External Hard Drives so no upgradable memory
CDs
5GHz lines
Enough said.

Plus I find PS4's dashboard so basic and dull.

Xbox Live Chat are useless. There blaming the Xbox One S console as being faulty LOL.
Yeah right when it shows this...

The detailed network statistics;
Download: 37.19Mbps
Upload: 9.27Mbps
Packet Loss: 0%
MTU: 1480
Latency: 89 ms

Doesn't support vinyl, 8 track, microdrive, Compact cassette and 3.5"/5.25" floppy discs either. Supports FLAC fine so no excuse for using 1980s tech anymore :P

You can replace internal hard drive rather having external hard drives sticking out of the console. Simple easy to do and there is a backup/restore function for your game collection.

5GHz LOL for gamers it's all about ethernet. If 5GHz get PS4 Slim.
#26
Unfortunately replacing it internally isn't simple, I know a lot of people who struggle to accomplish this. And I don't know anyone who sits on top of their router to run and ethernet cable to it, or fancies having a massive cable running across the floor to it. The fact they had to remake it to add the 5GHz support means they screwed up.

As for fans, I've had my Xbox One since 2014 and I still barely hear the fans. And I also find PlayStation's party chat functions to be poorer and their servers too, I've played Uncharted 4 online and I struggled to get a game where everyone didn't dance around the map.

All will be irrelevant when the Scorpio gets launched anyways as it outstrips the Playstation on every level.

I can't see how swapping a caddy/HDD out would be hard ?

It's easier to replace internal hard drive.

1. Remove internal hard drive and Install new
2. Boot in safe mode and install update from USB
Done!

If long cable is not your idea then use powerline adapter. Simple LOL

With Scorpio Microsoft might be boosting how powerful it is. However don't count Sony out yet. You might never know they just might surprise Microsoft with another blow this time PS5

I definitely doubt that considering that they stated they're won't make any more Playstation consoles after the PS4 Pro.

And as easy as you say it is, it doesn't beat plug in job done.

That's what they said during PS3. (were doubtful about PS4).

It's all business end of they day, they don't want other big players like Microsoft/Nintendo to be aware of there upcoming consoles or future plans. So I got a feeling PS5 will come soon. Remember both Microsoft/Sony are not sticking to 6-8 years of current gen consoles, expect more consoles 1-3 years.

Consoles need to be more modular like small form factor PCs. Seems better to swap out the GPU/CPU and add more RAM every three years.

Exactly what I think. Simple plug and play. Remove old GPU install new GPU boom.

Developing games should be easier. Just make the game detect old/new GPU and load/install graphics depending on that. Far more simple.

Got the new Xbox One S a month ago which is my first ever Xbox and I have to agree with everything you say. UI interface is a mess with games having a small section (on a gaming console). Loads of stuff I don't care about but still throws it in my face. Install & downloads times go up & down a lot. Store is the worse. I always thought PS Store was bad but Xbox store is on another level bad.

Thankfully I've had no problems with the fan. I couldn't believe that you still have to buy battery packs for the controller in this day & age. PS4 controllers have batteries built in & are cheaper. Glad I got a really good deal on it or I would be kicking myself. Just going to use it to play exclusives.

That's the downside you have to still buy battery or get the play and charge kit.

The store is an absolute nightmare. The PS4 store is simple, fast and the entire dashboard has a WOW factor. Using Xbox One dashboard it feels dull and plain which makes me feel morbid.

By the way most of these new exclusives are now becoming available on PC (Windows 10). However I doubt upcoming Halo games will.
