Hey all...

Are there any good deals flying around on wireless routers at the moment??

I'm using Vista and have read many bad reviews on amazon regarding some of the netgear products which was my original choice.

Also my ISP is Karoo if that helps?

I've got one you can have. It came as a spare from Sky when I bought their broadband. Brand new and sealed. No idea what it's worth.

Do you happen to know the model number etc?

I personally prefer the Netgear routers, I've dealt with many of them and never had any problems at all, I don't know the reasons for the bad reviews. The one that comes with Sky is normally the Netgear DG834 but they are customised for Sky and contain a user id and password built-in, although there is a trick to unlock it and use is as a normal Netgear router which I have done in the past without any problems. It has a built-in modem so saves space and transfers up to 108Mb/s. Amazon sell them for £40.

Not a clue. I'll have a look when I'm back in the house this afternoon and let you know.

Have you crossed to the darkside of Vista yet as that is my only concern?

I haven't yet but surely if there are issues with connectivity with Vista then it will be due to the wireless receiver on the computer and not the router as the router is not installed on the PC, you just need to make sure you get a 100% Vista-compatible wireless network card/USB stick.

It is indeed the Netgear DG834GT router.

buy a locked one, to unlock it is very simple. to summarise you just turn it on, quickly turn it of restart it wait for the flashing light and reinstall teh firmware with generic netgear.

this looks daunting but when you read through the instructions its simple. I bought my netgear DG834GT from ebay refllashed it and used iton tesco and virgin broadband no problem and its great for lan games and So much easier than cable network to install. took about 15 mins for reflash / adding info and install. go on its a thrill when youve done it and saved 40 quid.
