Either Taiyo Yudens or Verbatims would be my recommendation. I stopped using cheap media ages ago haven't looked back. Nothing worse than going back to something 8 months later to find it won't play.. :(

Taiyo Yudens : http://www.shopneo.co.uk/taiyo-yuden-8x-dvd-r-100-pack-c-296-p-1-pr-16758.html

Not bad for 21p each.. These are originals too - it's where I get mine.

Hi, I have been using Bulkpaq DVD-R's 8x, I have found them very good discs too, they cost me £4.65 for 50 + postage online, used them for a while now and very reliable.

i've been using bulkpaqs as well!! but mine are white top not gold like the link

do dvd-rs go bad after time? i think i've had these for about a year now... i do remeber reading reviews first before buying

another vote for taiyo yuden/verbatim discs. if youre lucky, you can get taiyo made verbatim discs (google to find out which packs are taiyo)

svp.co.uk should be able to help you out with sourcing some good value taiyos, although IIRC bigpockets had a fairly cheap taiyo 100 spindle not too long ago...

I have never heard of DVD's going bad after time, I think if you look after them properly in a protective case they should be fine, I found a few old dvd blank media that was about 6 years old and they worked fine, and as for the gold top discs, I have used other Bulkpaq branded discs and have never had any truble with them at all,

Unfortunately if you were a victim of bad discs, how you looked after them made no difference whatsoever. I had bought 100 x TraxData discs with a dye ID of RITEKG04. All the discs were looked after, not a scratch on them and were not used just for one purpose (self-made wedding videos for relatives). All of a sudden I went to use one and my machine just froze when it tried to read it. I contacted those who had copies too and sure enough, they all had the same problem. I only used 70 of the discs and all of them had gone 'bad' - ironically the only thing which could read them was my son's Xbox so I was able to salvage most of the content back.

Check the web for dye corrosion on ritek G04 dyes. You'll find lots of reading material!

Yes sorry you have had an expierence like that, I have not had that other than the odd disc not playing, but I think he was asking if discs actually go out of date, I am not aware of this, for you to have so many go wrong you definately had a dodgy batch, but were they old, had you had them stood for a period of time.

Nope, the discs were used immediately after purchasing and they weren't long off the production line according to the date on them. A lot of people had a problem so if it was batch-related, I'd calculate there were a lot of dodgy discs!
