My 6 year son is desperate for an Xbox for Christmas this year and I have no idea about them!
I know he enjoys playing Kinect on his friend's Xbox so would be good to have that and also Lego Dimensions but other than that, are there many games suitable for 6 year olds? Don't think he'd be able to play Fifa just yet.

Was just after some advice on the best console/bundle to go for? Xbox One or the 'S' version? Preferably not ridiculously expensive as well.....
Thanks

I would say any of the Lego games and character games from TV shows will be OK.

You can always download free demos to try before you buy.

Get the Xbox One S latest model. Amazon have the 500gb version with FIFA 17. You can sell FIFA 17 on here for £30 if not needed which bring the cost down.

Regarding kinect Microsoft quietly kind of let it go dead in the water. Kinect is sold separately.

With Xbox One S you need Kinect adapter which Microsoft will give for free they take the serial of kinect and Xbox console. More info here http://m.windowscentral.com/how-claim-free-kinect-adapter-xbox-one-s

Agreed with above, I would get the s, purely because it is a more mature version so more reliable. Also looks nicer, in my opinion anyway. But both perform as well as each other really, so if you do see a great deal on the other, I wouldn't be put off. Games wise, there are plenty of variety about, I would recommend anything Lego, also sky landers and Disney infinity (marvel ones too) are extremely popular, and you can upgrade the game with new characters for a few quid, so Christmas money or pocket money can always buy him a new character. Marvel ones (so iron man, Spider-Man, captain America, thor etc) are great and boys, my nephews love these things.

My advice is if it's for Christmas, look to buy when offers are at their best, so either during Black Friday, Black Friday weekend or cyber Monday ( online), this is all lateish November, Google will tell you when, or in December last couple of weekends before Christmas, I know it seems late, but this is when game stores push consoles and have great deals on, also games are on offer too. Stores keep plenty of stock at this time of year, so you won't miss out. ( it's not a new product anymore so stock isnot limited or hard to get hold of)

Hope this helps,

Quick tip set it up if you can before christmas day make sure it works and install all updates you can put it all back in box after it will save the updates. Nothing worse than a kid excited on crimbo day and a console performig a 6 hour update. Most of the games these days hve huge updates so u can even put each disc in so it can install and update then your wee one is ready to go when he gets it

This is the new sky landers starter pack coming out later this month, again ad dons can be bought cheaply, it's really good for kids and should be on Blackfriars deals I'd guess, Amazon or game, but keep an eye out. Previous generation of this game is also readily available for cheap.

Completely agree! Set the console up, do the updates, put a blu Ray in so it updates the blurry player and then put any games in so it updates the games, otherwise these take ages, especially on Christmas day when everyone else is doing the same, as an optional extra if you can afford to, I'd recommend a play and charge kit, so you don't have to mess around with batteries, but this isn't urgent, this can be done at a later date.

Thanks for all your advice - will wait for Black Friday/Cyber Monday and see if I can grab a bargain! Hadn't realised you couldn't just plug and play so will definitely load it up before!

should I not bother with Kinect then? I thought it might help me work off all the compulsory Christmas chocolate weight :p

My 5 year old loves playing the Lego games (Batman, Marvel, Star Wars etc). He also loves Minecraft on there as well.

There's tons of games for the kids, so don't worry about that................although mine has ditched the (my) Xbox in favour of playing Pokemon Yellow on the Shield !

Theres loads of xbox 's' bundles out now, some with kids games. As mentioned, all lego games are good.

I'm buying one this xmas for a 6 year old and looking at minecraft, lego avengers, lego star wars, new skylanders and lego dimensions. some of these may come in the bundles.

Wait on prices getting lower still in the sales coming up.

You could buy a copy of FIFA 14 for a couple of quid to try it out.

I agree Fifa for a 6 year old is too advanced and not aimed at them.

Kinect is kind of dead. No point wasting money on it. Just get the Xbox One S and games.

Take your pick on games...

also think about getting a Xbox live gold account now and then you can "purchase" the games with gold games between now and Christmas.

6 is more than old enough for Fifa. Sure, he might not be able to fully make the most of the experience, but you'd be surprised how intuitive these games are.
