Hi,

Not sure whether just to wait for the new 60GB or grab a 120GB now, but think the 120GB would be better.

Can anyone recommend the best place to get one from please? Don't fancy paying anywhere near the £120 RRP since that seems ridiculous when you consider how much hard drives actually cost nowadays (120GB laptop drive on Ebuyer for £30.51 for example)

Cheers

Id wait as microsoft said they are gunan drop the price of the 120gb solo drive

Tbh 120gb is too much space - ive got the 20gb one and i still have 6gb left even though ive downloaded tons of stuff
New prices of the consoles will be

Xbox 360 arcade £140
Xbox 360 premium - 20gb - £160
Xbox 360 premium - 60gb - £190
Xbox 360 elite 120gb - £220

Many thanks for the replies; that Comet one doesn't look like a bad price at all, but may wait if those prices that dandoc2 quoted are confirmed.

I'm going to buy a new 360 anyway, the new 'Jasper' 65nm is supposed to be very quiet isn't it? My current one is awfully loud, both the disc drive and the fans. Will all of the new 60GB Premium's have the Jasper chips?

“The 60GB Xbox 360 and the 20GB clearance sale are for the US only,” said a rep. “We have not announced any changes in Xbox 360 offerings or pricing in Europe.”

the noise will stay the same. Most of the noise is from the dvd drive spinning but the cooling fans don't help. The thing that will help the most and worth getting a larger drive for is the ability to copy games to the hard drive and play them from there which is out in October. That will be much better, no more noisy drive spinning all the time!
#6
Yeah, that's why I was after a bigger hard drive - a lot less noise and quick loading times would be amazing! :)

I think the fans on the 'Jasper' are supposed to be a lot quieter though. So that, coupled with the lack of disc spinning noise, and it'll be a winner.
#7
it wont be quieter as thats the drive and fans but its a better cpu so less chance of the ring of death
The price from curreys at £90 is a bargain though for the hard drive but i wouldnt buy it until you get the console as you will realise how much space 60gb really is

I've never known anyone with such a mouth for utter horse manure, seriously, no one listen to this joker, he hasn't a clue what he's going on about.

So you just admitted you made those prices up? Well done. The 20GB will be on clearance, hence why there has been little in the way of stock sent to stores lately (the past few months). The other consoles in the 360 range have no had a price reduction announced, you just made it up.

I really don't know why you need 120gb internal drive unless you want to download a lot of Xbox 1 games to play on your 360. And even those you can just get original Xbox 1 discs for a few pounds now and use them in the 360 no need to take up hard drive space (unless you want to instantly download them)
And download a film it deletes itself afterwards anyway so no room needed there either.

EDIT : Though the announcement that you can install complete games to hard drive changes thing a bit..

Photos, mp3s, films etc can all be done through a USB drive of just about any size as long as you format it properly..

Well durrrr none of the prices have been announced
its called a guess - so if im wrong who cares

And regarding blu ray - i think microsoft would go with it next gen as dvd discs are starting to get a little cramp
#31
right jus got back and they have them listed as £99.99 instore, they told me that they were probably on clearance on the website...i asked him to scan it in, and it came up as £99.99 so i guess its a mis-price/clearance thing
#32
should i ask pc world if they price match?
