hi
I was wondering if anyone could advise on the following.
Santa is bringing my son an Xbox one s for Xmas.
unfortunately the TV it will be getting connected to is an old style crt which has no hdmi connections only scart.

now I'm aware you can get a hdmi to scart converter but I and this may have been a solution for earlier xboxes but I'm not 100% sure if this is still a solution that will work with the Xbox one. before I buy a hdmi/scart converter I was wondering if anyone could meet me know that it will work OK?
(and yes I know how pointless it is having a 4k HD capable device connected to an old crt TV and I know the best solution is to buy a new TV but that's what the situation is for now unfortunately)

many thanks in advance

I'd just buy a hdmi tv your only talking between £30/ £50 on facebook as it will look terrible on a crt tv but it will work if need be

Don't even think about it. There is a possibility that you can't read any text on screen when you do this. Also buying a converter is a few quids to spend, so maybe just buy some used small Tv from your local gumtree or something.

Buy a new tv

jump on ebay and search within a 10-15mile radius.

If not now, then boxing day as I am sure plenty of people will be updating their televisions over the Christmas period.

Totally understandable it is not viable to just "buy a new tv" especially at this time of year. Best bet is a decent second hand one you can go pick up locally.

Facebook groups are also another good shout, but it seems lick dependent if you are the first to see the tv etc so I would suggest eBay local being the best option for you.

hi. where about do you live? anywhere near burton-on-trent or Birmingham?

For the price of a converter that will A) work, but B) look like utter faecal matter; you could buy a decent sized second hand TV with HDMI.

+1 to "Don't bother"

Agree with everyone else no point using scart. Mite aswell get a lcd to go with it if its just a small one theyre surprisingly cheap. Even go for the normal xbox one and put the savings towards a newer tv. Not much point to the s model tbh

The issue isn't the display technology, but the resolution. While high resolution CRT tubes were plentiful and would look good, they were almost all used in computer monitors. Very few of them made it into televisions.

If you do have one of those rare exceptions then you'd want a converter that handles 1280x720 or higher over component/RGB which may be tricky to find as HDTVs quickly adopted HDMI instead. Maybe something like an HDFury, but then that's pretty expensive and you could buy a new TV instead.

do you have an old PC monitor? an HDMI to VGA or dvi might work better.

It's like buying a car with no wheels, buy a TV first then think about the xbox

As others have said buy a new TV. Led tvs are a lot cheaper to run then old CRTs so it will pay for itself in the long run anyway.

Hi bud, like everyone else said, the CRT isnt the best way to go (but keep it for your mega drive/snes :-) )

(only a suggestion...) Why not take the Xbox one S back, buy a Xbox one 500gb and then you will have enough left over to buy a 2nd hand monitor/TV with a HDMI in it..... on gumtree/ local facebook/ even on here xbox one's are selling for peanuts as people are getting newer ones.

A scart adaptor will probably provide a below par picture and possibly input lag making it unplayable.. Hope you get sorted for xmas. Tellys are also going dirt cheap on local pages, just take a look around.. Good luck
