Birthday weekend for me and my kids want to treat me (although I think they are also thinking of themselves!) to a PS3 or 360 - still very much undecided as I can see the pros and cons of both. Mostly like driving or strategy type games, as well as family friendly games (i.e. Lego Star Wars type things). There seems to be these types of games on both and a few on the horizon as well. Online gaming isn't a big draw. Blu-ray player is tempting but don't watch many films anyway, although the upscaling ability of the PS3 is also reported to be good for existing DVDs - I think the xbox can also upscale but reports of high noise levels make me think that would not be practical.

Not interested in shooters or games of a violent nature such as GTA??.

Anyway, has anyone seen some good/great bundle deals that are available in the highstreet over the bank holiday for eithe a PS3 or 360?

Viva Pinata is THE most addictive game I have ever played....you'll get hooked on as much as the kids...I love it ...I'm 27!!!

GTA has saved me!

Xbox 360's upscaling ability is superb, though it does require you purchasing a VGA cable.

I assume you have a wii or don't want one? They are more 'family friendly' than the 360 and PS3.

Personally, I think, the 360 is the better choice, simply due to the price difference. You could purchase another half a dozen games (maybe even a dozen if you buy second hand) to make it up to £320, and with the 360 having a greater library of games at the moment it seems the most sensible buy.
(I own both consoles btw)

Yeah, games a lot cheaper too

Does the 360 not upscale with the HDMI cable?? It is the reports of the fan noise that put me off using the 360 as a DVD upscaler though - is it as loud as some people claim - it's impossible to tell when you are in a shop because there is already so much background noise.

The kids already have a Wii - my favourite games are racers and there doesn't seem to be any good ones to hold my interest. We also have a xbox original which they still play a few games on, stuff like Simpsons Hit and Run, Lego Star Wars are their favourites. My favourite games on it where PGR2 and Rallysport Challenge 2. The new GRID by codemasters looks like it would be on my list of purchases.

The reliability issue also seems a bit of a sticking point.

Ahh, I have the older version that is missing the HMDI port, but using a VGA cable it is very good.
I am unsure about using a HDMI cable I'm afraid.

Hi,

I have both X360 and PS3, not much to choose between them, pretty much the same in terms of graphics/ gameplay, sound I think is slightly better on PS3.

The one thing that the PS3 is definitely way better than the 360 is NOISE, I don't know if newer 360 models have improved but the fan noise level from the 360 is ridiculous and really annoys me, hence the PS3 purchase, my son now has 360 in his bedroom.

If noise is not an issue and you are not worried about blu-ray then the 360 is great value.

Yeah I would agree with that, especially if it is stored in a TV cabinet or similar. The 360 is strangely loud in comparison to the PS3.

Thanks - I went for a PS3 in the end. Very happy with it so far:thumbsup:
