Redmi Pro, Redmi Note 3 Pro or Redmi Note 4. They're all 5.5" 1080p screens with 4000mah battery or more and expandable storage. Each have different versions with more expensive models having higher RAM and storage.

Comparison of the 3 (if you're viewing this link from a phone, I think it'll only show 2 of them). They're all fairly similar devices. Note 3 Pro would be cheapest then Note 4, then Redmi Pro. In terms value, Note 3 Pro would be best. In terms of quality, then probably the Redmi Pro. The Note 4 doesn't seem like that much of an upgrade to the lower priced Note 3 Pro. It also uses a mediatek processor compared to a snapdragon in the Note 3 Pro. Many would consider snapdragon to be better than mediateks. If you're searching for Note 3 Pro prices, be sure it's the Pro version and not the original model otherwise it'll be a mediatek model without expandable storage. Also don't get confused with Redmi 3 Pro which is a smaller 5" 720p phone.

Something else to point out if you aren't familiar with Chinese phones is that some don't cover UK 4G band 20 which is used by O2 and some other networks. If your mother is on a network that uses only band 20 for 4G then her mobile data speeds would be 3G. However there is a Redmi Note 3 Pro International version which covers all UK bands.

If you would rather avoid all the risks associated with buying a chinese phone(customs , lack of proper warranty) you may take a look at Huawei P9 Lite which at the moment is on a very good offer. It's slightly smaller
(5.2" screen) but its a good phone. Great value for your money. http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/huawei-p9-lite-black-129-99-10-minimum-top-up-139-99-ee-2536084?page=2#comments

I have the Redmi Note 3 Pro (the one with more 4g bands) and its a fantastic phone. Camera isn't as good as latest iphones or galaxies but apart from that I can't fault it. Very well made and battery easily lasts 2 days.

Forget these crap knock offs. Get her a note 4.

Or 5, I recently got one from eBay after returning my Note 7. Fantastic device.

Redmi Note 3 Pro is immense.

Unfortunately, mine has bent slightly after sitting down with it in my pocket, and then also dropped on the floor and now have 2 large cracks across the screen.

So A grade for technology/performance per £, but a D for build quality & longevity
